School Climate Parent Subcommittee Update
As many of you know, the IASD Board of Directors authorized the administration to work with the Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium (MAEC) to conduct an equity audit to examine our system to see how we can work to improve our efforts to improve our school climate. As such, MAEC will conduct a variety of stakeholder meetings in May and June to collect data that will help inform our decision-making in IASD.
MAEC will be meeting with those individuals who signed up to be a part of the parent/community subcommittee on May 12th and will have seperate sessions with teachers and students on May 13th and will then conduct individual sessions with the administration and Board of Directors in late May/ early June. It is also important to note that to ensure impartiality in the process, no administrators are allowed to take part in this portion of the process.
Societal issues that impact our communities also affect our schools. Our success in addressing these issues are directly related to our ability to collaborate as a school community. Our schools should be safe havens where all students feel secure, respected, welcomed, and empowered. We had over 50 community members request to be a part of the work to help combat the issues arising in our school communities. We are working to build an environment of equity and inclusion for all students. I thank those who volunteered to be a part of the work and for their commitment to this process.
IHS Prom
Prom was held on April 30th and it was incredible night to see our students enjoying themselves. They were laughing, dancing, and smiling the night away. It was amazing to see so many students together enjoying each other's company. We all know the recent challenges we are facing and it was rewarding to see how our students positively interact with one another and celebrated the moment. It was a great night, and I was pleased to attend to witness their smiles first hand. They deserved a special night, and I hope they had a great time.
