Welcome to 4th Grade!
ELA
Fourth grade ELA (reading) is all about comprehension. We know students are able to read, but we want to dive deeper and see them really understand what they are reading; to make sense of what the text is saying.
The best way to prepare for 4th grade ELA is to find books that your student loves and read! Read with them, have them read to you, and ask questions about what they are reading.
Math
Fourth grade math builds on the concepts learned in 3rd grade by applying many of the concepts in multi-step word problems.
The best thing you can do this summer to prepare for 4th grade is make sure that your students knows their multiplications facts! These are so important as they are used in every single concept we cover!
Science/Social Studies
Fourth grade Social Studies is all about our great state of North Carolina! Students will learn about the symbols of North Carolina, the people groups that once inhabited our land, the first explorers and settlers, how government works, as well as the geography and important attractions around our state. There will be 3 projects that will be completed outside of school given throughout the year.
Fourth grade Science includes learning about concepts of rocks and minerals, magnetism, electricity, health and nutrition, animal adaptations, and the moon. Many of our field trips center around these concepts and help students deepen their understanding with hands-on learning.
