Principal's Message
This week was a busy one at the nest! On Tuesday evening, we welcomed incoming kindergarten families for an informational night. On Wednesday, we had our first ever Multilingual Family Night in the Commons and celebrated with a global potluck. Thank you to all our families who were able to make it and for bringing treats to share. On Thursday afternoon, we had the pleasure of listening to our first graders sing heart warming songs at their music concert. They did an amazing job! We are definitely feeling the love at the nest. We hope it is carrying over into your homes as well.
We look forward to seeing you all at Parent-Teacher Conferences next Thursday and Friday. Remember no school for students Thursday, Feb. 16th - Monday, Feb. 20th. Students return on TUESDAY, February 21st.
Have a wonderful weekend! GO CHIEFS AND EAGLES! Hoot, hoot, hooray!

PERSONAL MOBILE DEVICES
Students should not be checking devices during the day (including wearable devices like watches), nor should students be contacted during school hours. Please check the Parent Student Handbook (page 33) for further information on this policy. If you need a message to get to your child please contact our front office at (847) 398-4282.
SPAM EMAIL FOLDERS
It has come to our attention that some district emails, like Mealtime lunch balance reminders, are going into parents' spam folders. Please check your Spam folder to ensure you are not missing out on any pertinent information from Olive or SD25.
STUDENT CODE FOR SIGN-IN/OUT
The door at the main entrance has a security code that an adult must scan with a cell phone when a student arrives late or leaves early. The code is a timestamp of when the student arrived or left and with whom, giving the office accurate information in case that there are questions about a student's whereabouts. This information is also necessary in the event of a fire drill or actual emergency. Please note that the online absence form parents may fill out in advance is simply a notice to the front office of a student's plan. We appreciate you helping us ensure our students' safety and security!
Kids Heart Challenge Update
We are blown away by our OMS community response to the American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge. In our first week we have 97 families participating and have raised over $4,000! It isn't too late to join the challenge. Please follow the steps below!
Getting started is as easy as 1..2…3
- Download the Kids Heart Challenge App or visit heart.org/KHC to register.
- Choose your daily health challenge to Move More or Be Kind and earn your own BE THE TORCH wristband so you can help light the way!
- Get a head start on COMPLETING FINN’S MISSION in your Headquarters, where you and your family can put the power of lifesaving Hands-Only CPR into YOUR hands and help us create a community of lifesavers! Try to do all 8 activities to complete the Mission!
- Don’t forget: Double your Gift! Check to see if your employer will match your donation today! Follow the steps and forward the confirmation to matchinggifts@heart.org to have this added to the student’s fundraising page.
Rescue at Lake Wild - Scavenger Hunt
During our whole school scavenger hunt this week, students have been searching the school for hidden pictures related to Rescue At Lake Wild, our One Book One School book. Each class figured out answers to clues related to the book and then searched for pictures of the clue answers. In LMC lessons, third graders used the engineering process to design and build small-scale beaver dams that would hold back a stream of water. It was fun to watch Mrs. Watanuki, the student learning coach, test them to see which designs worked best. Second graders used coding skills to program Beebots to follow a path mimicking events from the book in order. They had to be careful to avoid the predators of beavers like coyotes and wolves!
