Bear Bulletin
August 4, 2023
Welcome
We are excited to welcome you to the 23-24 school year! With so many campus changes, things will look a little different around here, but one thing that won't change is how our staff is committed to ensuring each child learns at high levels every day in a safe and supportive environment. We look forward to collaborating with you in your child's education. In the coming weeks, if you have questions, concerns, or suggestions for how we can improve, please reach out to Mrs. Ashlock at kerri.ashlock@misd.org or by phone at 936-276-4710.
Meet the Teacher
Our first family event this year is Meet the Teacher. This event will take place on Tuesday, 8/8. This is an opportunity for students to meet their teacher and for parents to get information about our PTO, nutrition department, transportation, and more. Parents, this is a great opportunity to get your name badge for the first day of school so you can walk your child to class. Postcards were placed in the mail on Thursday to let students know who their homeroom teacher is. These postcards went out to all families who completed their annual enrollment and to families who are on affidavits that had completed the appropriate forms for this year. Our current classroom teacher list is included below:

Lincoln PTO Spirit Night
Our PTO is hosting their first Spirit Night of the year on the same day as Meet the Teacher. Come meet your new teacher, tour the school, and then stop by Marco's for a pizza for dinner! This is a great way to help earn money for our PTO which supports our students and staff with different projects throughout the year.
First Day
The first day of school holds many emotions for our students and their grown-ups. Some are anxious, and others are excited. Some are both! Rest assured, our staff is ready and eager to greet our students with open arms and warm smiles on Thursday. Our doors will open at 7:50 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 8:15. Parents may walk their children to the classroom door on both Thursday and Friday. Parents will need a visitor badge from the front office before entering the main hallway of the building. A badge for the first day can be attained at Meet the Teacher. After this first week, students will walk to class by themselves. We always have staff stationed in the hallways to help students get where they need to be.
On Thursday, we will have our third annual Tears and Cheers event in the Library from 8:00-8:30, hosted by our PTO. This is an opportunity for parents to take a moment after they drop their children off at their classroom doors and spend a few minutes with other grown-ups going through the same thing. You can laugh, cry, or just take some time to connect with other parents.
Finally, we ask for your patience these first couple of weeks of school. Our campus has undergone some major changes that will require some new processes. It will likely take time for us to fine tune them for maximum safety and efficiency. The first few days of school, our focus is always to welcome kids, keep them safe, get to know them, feed them, and get them home to you. Thank you for your understanding as we get this school year rolling!
New Car Rider Line Procedures
Closed Campus for Lunches Until 8/28
As our staff teach students our lunch procedures and give them opportunities to practice, we will be having closed campus for lunches the first couple of weeks of school. We will begin welcoming lunch visitors the week of Monday, 8/28. If you have any questions, please reach out to either Mrs. Ashlock or Mrs. Mallant.
Renovation Updates
Our campus is undergoing significant renovations, most of which are already complete. Some of the major projects that have been completed include our new parking lot and car rider line, upgraded kitchen area/serving lines/kitchen equipment, installation of new LED lighting, new interactive panels in all classrooms, new PA system throughout the building, and the delivery of new technology devices for students to use in the classrooms. Our new cafeteria tables will be delivered on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Contractors are hard at work completing work in our gym and front office areas. Both areas should be complete within the first few weeks of school. Our playground equipment was ordered, and we are expecting delivery over the winter break. See the renderings below for an idea of what the new equipment will look like. Thanks to our PTO for purchasing some yard games and fun equipment for our students to use during recess this fall and beyond.

Parent Involvement Opportunities
One of our campus goals is to build more parent involvement on our campus. As parents, you know your child best. We want to partner with you to consistently make our school better. Below are several opportunities where you can be involved or provide feedback.
- Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) - Our PTO is an organization of parents that works to support our students and staff in a variety of ways. They recently purchased some toys and games that students can play with during recess. They also bring in special programs and activities for our students and find ways to show appreciation to our staff. We encourage all families to join. For more information, you can contact our PTO at mylespto@gmail.com. You can also find them on Facebook (@myLESPTO).
- Parent Feedback Form - Any time you want to share your thoughts, you can email, call, or make an appointment to visit. Another way you can provide input is to simply complete our parent feedback form at any time. Your responses are anonymous unless you choose to include your name and/or contact information.
School Hours, Attendance, and Tardies
School Hours:
- Doors open at 7:50
- Tardy bell rings, and class begins at 8:15. (This is the time students are expected to be in their seats in the classroom.)
- School day ends at 3:40
We are working hard to maximize each and every minute our students are here. School announcements begin at 8:10. Students who arrive after 8:15 are considered tardy and will need to be walked into the front door of the building and signed in by a parent or guardian. If your child needs to leave early, they may be checked out through the front office by a parent or guardian.
Changes in transportation need to be made prior to 2:00 in order to allow time for the messages to be communicated with the appropriate staff member. To request a change of transportation, either
- Send a note with your child,
- Email LincolnElementaryTransit@misd.org with the note and a copy of your driver's license, or
- Come to the school with a copy of your driver's license.
