ALICE DRILL Information
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Wednesday, January 31st, our staff and students will participate in an A.L.I.C.E drill at Midnight Sun Family Learning Center. ALICE is a training that prepares children and educators to handle a situation where a “dangerous someone” is encountered in or outside our school.
I am aware that this topic can be a scary one, but it is best to be prepared. Our teachers plan to address this topic in an age appropriate way by using the book, I’m Not Scared…I’m Prepared by Julia Cook as the basis of our discussions. This along with other materials prior to the drill will help alleviate fear from the student and empower them with understanding their abilities in times of danger.
ALICE teaches all of us what to do in case of danger, and the concepts taught will be the same actions needed whether your child is in school, at the store, theater, home, or other places they may go.
Your child will be trained to STOP, LOOK, and LISTEN to any announcements, whether those are from a PA system or from their teacher.
They will know that during the lockdown, they will need to stay quiet and out of sight.
If the “dangerous someone” enters the room they are in, your child will know to COUNTER the situation by making noise, moving around, and throwing items at an intruder.
If announcements indicate that it is safe to do so, your child will safely evacuate to a predetermined spot away from the school

Sincerely,
Amy Harren- Principal Midnight Sun Family Learning Center
