MRHS CLUBS HAVE BEEN VERY BUSY
Animal Welfare Club
The Animal Welfare Club has been busy, busy, busy!!
- We sold dog and cat treats at the Cranberry Harvest Festival. Half of our dog treats were homemade by the following fabulous AWC members: Arden Gingras, Aaliyah Bailey, and Lizzie Cronen. Wonderful Bobbi Brown donated dog treats as well. As you can see in the photos, we filled a huge basket with decorated treat bags. On both the rainy Saturday and sunny Sunday, we made $159 that will be donated to NESAA (New England Society of Abandoned Animals), a no-kill foster network. Many thanks to Angie Chilaka and Karen Kelly of the Harwich Children's Fund for keeping us dry on Saturday. The photos also show dogs at the festival enjoying the whipped cream treats we made for them.
- In other AWC news, we zoomed with Erin Healey and her pitbull, Ollie, to learn about Ollie's life on the streets of Baltimore and his rescue/recovery. Erin volunteers at the SPCA shelter in Baltimore that specializes in rescuing abandoned pitbulls from dog-fighting horrors. You will find a photo of Ollie below.
We will have a huge bake sale at the Harwich Stop and Shop on Saturday, November 18!! Please stop by to help us raise funds for Wild Care, Sandy Paws Rescue, and The Sampson Fund. We will also start collecting towels and sheets soon for local shelters so look for the boxes around school.
The Voiceless Thank You!!
Spirit Club
Last week, MRHS Spirit Club hosted its 2nd Annual Student vs Faculty Kickball game to benefit Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Over $150 was collected to donate to Cape Cod Healthcare's Breast Cancer centers. The faculty remains undefeated!
Thank you to all who played, watched, and donated!
Creative Writing Club: Sandscript
On October 31, members of Sandscript, the creative writing club of MRHS, continued a 20+ year tradition of reading their student-written and student-illustrated Halloween/Autumn stories to K and 1st graders. This year, we visited both CES and HES, and we'd like to thank the following teachers for welcoming us: Dawn King, Elise Johnson-Dreyer, Sandy Hanson, Stephanie Coles, Kathryn Giangregorio, Amy Silvester, and Julia Blois. We couldn't continue this visit without them!
Here are just a few photos taken by MRSD's own, Joy Jordan.
Interact Club
The Interact Halloween fundraiser was a tremendous success! On Halloween morning, Interact Club students brought smiles to students and staff as they delivered Halloween treat bags! All funds raised will be donated to a local charity in the spring.
Thank you to all the students and teachers who participated!
Winter Clothing & Toiletry Drive
Monomoy Interact students are partnering again with the Youth Street Reach program that supports the homeless population on the Cape.
We are collecting winter items and toiletries for the event on November 17 (see flyer for more details). Our student volunteers will bring the donated items to Hyannis and sort them so the items will be available the following day at the delicious breakfast that is served to anyone who needs a warm meal.
