Jaguar Community,

We hope you had a great time celebrating homecoming last week. Keep reading to see photos from this year's festivities! In this newsletter you'll find stories highlighting the exceptional work happening in our classrooms and throughout the FMHS community. There are plenty of academic, athletic and fine arts events occurring this fall so be sure to check your student's campus calendar as well as the Flower Mound High School calendar for events happening in your area.

On the ballot this November 7 will be seven propositions for Lewisville ISD residents - six bond propositions and one proposition for a Voter Approval Tax-Rate Ratification Election (VATRE).

Information Sessions

If you haven't already, join us at a Bond Information Session on Thursday, Oct. 26 to learn more about the seven propositions for Lewisville ISD that will be on the ballot this November. The session will be held at the Marcus HS Library at 6 p.m.

We had a blast celebrating Homecoming with our Flower Mound community. This year's theme was "Jags Are Stars of Hollywood" and staff and students dressed up accordingly. The FMHS feeder pattern participated in various events throughout the week including a carnival, pep rally and of course Friday's Homecoming game.

The Jags visited Bluebonnet Elementary to partner with young learners working on their reading skills. SEE PHOTOS

The student council helped fellow Jaguar students build their mums for the homecoming celebrations. SEE PHOTOS

Earlier this month the Forestwood Falcons participated in a Color Run! Thank you to the students, staff and volunteers that participated. SEE PHOTOS

Earlier this year, McKamy librarian Milissa Vo received a $2,500 grant from the Lewisville Education Foundation. The grant funding will be used for purchasing graphic novels and other supplies for the library. Milissa's grant was one of 65 other teacher grants that were delivered to LISD staff for a total of $103,570! Thanks to LEF's network of local civic organizations, corporate partners, and community members who made this possible! SEE PHOTOS

Shadow Ridge art teacher Karen Sawers' art received honorable mention at the Winnsboro Center for the Arts. Her art is currently on display at the RTown Art Gallery in Grapevine, as well as other galleries in Texas and Wyoming. Congratulations, Ms. Sawers!

The Bluebonnet Bears worked together to donate 58 coats for LISD' Council of PTA's Dressed to Learn Drive! Thank you to the students and families who participated.

Kindergarten students at Donald Elementary recently wrapped up Community Helpers Week as part of their social studies curriculum. Throughout the week, students were treated to guest appearances by FMPD police officer and LISD School Resource Officer Erik White, Grand Prairie firefighter and proud Donald parent Evan Winkle, Donald school nurse Rachelle Smouse, Donald assistant principal Nikki Robison and LISD superintendent Dr. Lori Rapp. Friday was also career dress up day, which saw the students dress for success in their dream career field! Throughout the month of October, FVE students are decorating pumpkins to look like their favorite book character. We're excited to see the library full of reading-inspired pumpkins!

Members of the "Gator News" team spoke with Lester Holt on the nationally broadcast program about their school's daily news show. Watch the segment HERE.

On Oct. 4, Liberty students and families participated in National Walk and Roll to School Day! Students used their two feet or rode their bikes, scooters or skateboards to get to school. FMHS students greeted the Liberty Eagles, and our PTA gave our Croc buttons. SEE PHOTOS

Students, staff and families attended the Old Settlers Family Traditions Night to see different displays and try food samples from the various countries represented. SEE PHOTOS

Congratulations to Dr. Isela Russell, one of the top 3 finalists for this year's Texas Teacher of the Year award. The Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year and Secondary Teacher of the Year will be named this Friday, Oct. 20. READ MORE

• Nathanael Brown, FM9 | "I am so appreciative of Mr. Brown for making a connection and building a relationship with my son through his Chess Club...Mr. Brown has gone above and beyond to get to know my soon and provide a place where he looks forward to going every Wednesday after school. Thank you, Mr. Brown. You are truly making a difference in his life!"
  

• Victoria White, Forestwood Middle School | "Mrs. White, thank you for being an amazing teacher. You have provided a space where my son is thriving in every area of his life. He loves your class and is excited every single day to get up and come to school. You make learning fun and rewarding, provide him with real world skills in creative ways, most importantly teach others about acceptance and inclusion by setting an example. Our family feels very fortunate that you make his life meaningful each day! Thank you."
• Martha Soldner, Bluebonnet Elementary School | "Mrs. Soldner is a wonderful, caring teacher. She goes above and beyond to make her students feel loved, special, and appreciated. She not only encourages her students during school hours, she also supports her students on weekends by attending their sporting events...Mrs. Soldner is not only great with students, but she communicates and works with the parents as well. Thank you!"
