Elect to Learn is Here to Help!
What is Elect to Learn?
Elect to Learn is an intervention designed to promote academic responsibility and effort. It is open to all students (6th, 7th, and 8th). Students who come to class unprepared with unfinished or incomplete work will be assigned Elect to Learn for that afternoon. If students are unable to attend, they need to get in touch with the teacher that assigned them to make arrangements.Elect to Learn is also open for any student who wants extra help on assignments or needs a quiet place to study. This time is an opportunity for students to make-up past assignments, get help from a staff member and complete homework. Students may also read novels and use computers for classwork, not games. It is a quiet study time, which allows students to move toward success in their learning at Olympic View. Staff members are available during this time to help students as necessary.
When & where is Elect to Learn?
It is available Monday - Thursday from 2:45 pm - 4 pm at the library.
Activity buses are available for students to ride home at 4:00 pm. In order for bus drivers to direct students to the correct activity bus, students must know their address and able to give it to the bus drivers. Helpful tip: have your student write their address on their planner.
Library News
All students are expected to have an independent reading book with them at all times at school. Students may be asked to read independently after finishing a test, during Monday's Crew time, or during an emergency interruption to a school day. They can bring school-appropriate books from home, or they can also check out our large collection of books at the OV library.
Students have a library day every OTHER week with their ELA class. So far, all 6th graders, Mrs. Lewis’ 7th graders, Mrs. Glafke/Mrs. Salcedo’s 7th & 8th graders, and Mrs. Roberts' 8th graders have already visited the library. They are part of the first-week rotation, which we call "O" week. We have "V" week (the second-week rotation) beginning on September 18th. This includes all other 7th and 8th graders. Ask your Pirate which day is their library day!
