Butler High School News - Mr. R. Fitzgerald, Principal
TECH-FREE FRIDAY - On Friday, December 18th, 2020 Butler High School will participate in an asynchronous Tech-Free Friday. In place of course work on Friday, we would like to encourage each student to engage in acts of kindness and gratitude. Please see the attached flyer which outlines several options for our students to choose from.
BULLDOG OF THE MONTH: This month we honor Dr. Nishimura as our November Bulldog of the Month. Dr. Nishimura is also our 2020 - 2021 Governor’s Educator of the Year. Dr. Nishimura always puts the students first and continues to be a shining light for our students. The Butler School District is lucky to have such a dedicated, caring and kind individual. Congratulations Dr. Nish!
ESP: Also a special congratulations to BHS Athletic Trainer Sven Lilienthal on receiving the 2020 - 2021 Educational Service Professional of the Year! Sven does an excellent job working with our student athletes and goes above and beyond his daily duties in order to get our student athletes healthy and back on the field.

BHS VIRTUAL WINTER CONCERT: Our winter concert will take place virtually this year on 12-23-2020. More information will be shared shortly by our music directors.

GRAB AND GO LUNCH: Grab and go breakfast/lunch is available for all students everyday. Pick is located at the BHS Cafeteria entrance from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm each weekday and 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays.
College Applications Deadlines: Seniors should be working with their counselors to make sure college applications are going out in a timely manner to avoid missing any deadlines.
SWITCHING TO ALL VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION: If you decide to have your child move to virtual instruction, please follow these steps:
1. Email Mrs. Milone @ Lmilone@butlerboe requesting a form to go virtual.
2. Fill out the form completely and scan it back to Mrs. Milone.
3. As per policy, allow one week for this request to be processed.
4. Until approval is given, students are expected to attend class in person during their cohort week.
Please follow the same procedure for a student returning to in-person instruction
STAY SAFE!: Our community continues to see a large increase in the number of individuals who tested positive for Covid-19. Because of this significant uptick in the incidence of Covid-19, we wish to remind all parents, staff, and students to continue following well-established Covid-19 safety measures, including:
- Proper and consistent use of a cloth face covering;
- Social distancing of six feet or more whenever possible;
- Frequent handwashing and hand sanitization;
- Respiratory etiquette for coughs and sneezes; and
- Staying home when ill and following established quarantine protocols.
Richard Butler Middle School News - Ms. C. Perez, Principal
On Friday, December 18th - for Tech Free Friday - students will have a few options for the RBS Gratitude Challenge. Choices include: a gratitude letter, gratitude meditation, gratitude journal and other options that will result in entries into a prize raffle for January! Gratitude Challenge
Every Friday is FUN Friday at RBS! Ms. Tagariello and Mr. Meyers have been hosting Fun Fridays for students that include trivia and scavenger hunts. The students (and staff) are having a blast!
Student Recognitions
The yearbook staff, advised by Mrs. Mignanelli and Mrs. Price hosted another successful Yearbook Cover Contest. This year, 16 creative covers were submitted by the deadline. Congratulations to Sarahi Serrano, who designed our front cover and Dakota Marion, who designed our back cover!
Matteo Brown, has been working diligently on his NJHS service project, collecting and making holiday cards to be sent to children who are in the hospital during the holidays. He has teamed up with the Culture and Climate Club as well as the Butler Community!
Music
The winter concert is coming soon with students submitting their final pieces to Mrs. Lowndes. The event will premiere the week of December 21st!
Student Council
The Student Council food drive was a success!!! Over 700 items were donated to the food pantry at St. Anthony’s. Great job to everyone who donated!
From the Counselors
Ms. Tagariello and Mr. Meyers have been running weekly groups with a variety of topics including: stress management, social media, peer relationships, transitioning to high school and tools for academic success.
Ms. Tagariello continues to work with the 4th graders at ADS, hosting a lunch group twice a week to focus on social skills and building peer relationships while also continuing her weekly lessons with this month’s focus being stress and coping skills.
Mr. Meyers has been meeting with 8th grade students to discuss BHS course offerings, sports, and extracurricular activities. He also arranged for BHS Peer Leaders to speak with our 8th grade students about BHS, their BHS experiences, and advice for high school.
Kudos to Ms. Tagariello who was interviewed by Vicki Davis, creator of The Cool Cat Teacher Blog, for her 10 Minute Teacher Podcast on counseling and connecting with students in a virtual setting. It will premiere sometime during the month of December!

The RBS basketball teams are gearing up for a successful 2020 season! Physicals are being collected, reviewed, and sent to our school doctor for clearance.
RBS Bulldog of the Month
Congratulations to Mrs. Gelino for being recognized as RBS’s Bulldog of the Month for December! She works with 4 different colleagues each day, co-teaching different subject areas and grade levels and does it all with a smile on her face! She is a team player that is consistently willing to try new things, creates fun and engaging activities for her students, and is always available to help her students find their personal success!
RBS Governor’s Educator of the Year and Educational Services Professional
Congratulations to Mrs. Heather Bethancourt for being recognized as the RBS Educator of the Year for her dedication to not only the ELLs in the district, but also to all families that need assistance with translation and understanding in their transition to the Butler district.
Congratulations to Mrs. Rebekah Karpowich for being recognized as the RBS Educational Services Professional of the year. She continually makes herself available to all students, both in and out of the classroom, ensuring that they have the tools necessary to be successful.

ADS Toy Drive
Thank you to all the families who participated in the Aaron Decker School Drive-Thru Toy Drive. Stocking Stuffers were collected on Thursday, December 10, 2020, and were donated to a bigger toy drive that is being run locally. Your generous donations will be greatly appreciated!
Governor's Educator of the Year/Educational Specialist of the Year
Each year the New Jersey Department of Education celebrates educators and educational specialists throughout the state with the Governor’s Educator of the Year and Educational Specialist of the Year Awards. This program highlights educational innovation, student achievement, the rewards of teaching, and important services outside the classroom environment that lead to student success.

Holiday Pies-Thank You PTA

Bulldog of the Month Award
Congratulations go out to our Bulldog Teacher of the Month Recipient, Mrs. Mary Lawler. Her hard work and dedication with our First Grade students is very much appreciated. Congratulations again on being named the ADS Governor Educator of the Year.
