Holiday Candy Grams
This December, The Flash will be selling Candy Grams to spread kindness this holiday season. Before school and during lunch, for 1 dollar you can send a message to any student or teacher in the school along with a candy that will be delivered the following advisory day. Perfect for best friends, favorite teachers, or even that special someone. For more information check out the Candy Gram stations in the commons before school or at lunch. All proceeds go to Toys for Tots.

Need A Tutor?
Peer tutoring is available on Wednesdays in the Learning Commons after school! Math peer tutors will be available from 2:30-3:30. You can get support for math homework- bring your questions or assignments to work on with a peer tutor and/or small group.

New: EVHS Choir Department Presents Their Winter Concerts 12/19
On December 19th the Eastview Choir Department is excited to present our Winter Concerts at 6:00 and 8:00 PM. We invite you to take a break from the "busy-ness" of the month, relax and enjoy the beautiful music our singers have worked so hard to prepare.
The 6:00 PM concert features All Co-Curricular Choirs, Choraliers (9th grade treble choir), Lightning Choir (9th grade tenor/bass choir), and Concert Choir (11th-12th grade mixed choir).
The 8:00 PM concert features All Co-Curricular Choirs, Elektra (10th-12th treble choir), Encore (10th-12th mixed choir) and Concert Choir (11th-12th grade mixed choir).
Both concerts end with our traditional grand finale, Ose Shalom!
Choir students have been told when to arrive on Monday night. Please check with your singer for arrival times and attire details.
We will have extra poinsettias from Gertens on sale after the 8:00 PM concert for the bargain price of $10.00 - red and white will be available.
As always, concerts are free of charge and open to the public! We hope to see you there!
Red Cross Blood Drive at Eastview on Friday, January 20
The greater Eastview community of parents, family members, and neighbors are invited to donate blood as part of the NHS-sponsored drive on Friday, January 20 from 7:00AM to 1:00PM in Eastview’s South Gym. Donation registration is completely online @ http://www.redcrossblood.org/give/drive/driveSearch.jsp Type “eastview” (our sponsor code), in the search box and the follow the online prompts. Need a Previous EVHS Yearbook?
The EVHS Library has an archive of yearbooks which are kept to chronicle our history. In addition, we have also received extra copies over the years that have not been picked up or used for other purposes. It is time to downsize these extra copies. Do you have a grad who didn’t get a yearbook or know a neighbor who would appreciate the memories? You can find a complete list of extra copies available here listed by year. If you would like to request one of these copies, please email evhs.learningcommons@apps.district196.org and we will set the copy aside for you to pick up. Feel free to share the link with anyone who may be interested. All books can be picked up at Eastview High School during school hours.

Seniors with January 1st College Application Deadlines
The deadline for submitting requests for letters of recommendations or school reports to teachers and counselors so they can be completed before our Winter Break is Friday, December 16th. Students should plan accordingly as transcript requests are not processed over winter break.

The ACE Mentor Program of America is a free, award-winning, afterschool program designed to attract district high school students into pursuing careers in the Architecture, Construction, and Engineering industries, including skilled trades. The group will meet every other Thursday from 2:45 – 4:45 pm in Room E163 at Apple Valley High School. The next meeting will be December 15th. Please complete this FORM if you would like to join.

UPCOMING COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY VISITS
Students should stop by the Counseling Office and get a pass to attend the college/university/military Rep Visit prior to the right visit. These university/college or military visits are small group meetings typically lasting 20/30 minutes. These admission reps are often times the same people that review college applications, so it's a great connection for students.

Eastview Boys Hockey vs. the White Bear Lake Bears – December 15, 2022
The Lightning tamed the Bears on Thursday night at the TCO Sports Garden in White Bear Lake. This was a matchup of highly rated teams. Play in the 1st period was even and tight, with Eastview scoring the only goal at even strength at 9:48 on a great individual effort by Tyler Cordes #6 from the side of the Bear’s net, with assists going to Logan Opgrand #2 and Zach Wooten #9. Shots in the 1st period were 13-11 in favor of Eastview. White Bear scored early in the 2nd period at 20 seconds before Eastview took the lead back at 4:49 on the Power Play (PP) when Charlie Ortman #26 scored a pretty goal into a wide-open net on a feed from Tanner Kronberg #17 and Tyler Cordes #6 making it 2-1. The Lightning went up 3-1 at 9:20 when Tanner Kronberg #17 scored on a rebound on the PP with assists to Logan Opgrand #2 and John Kisch #5. White Bear cut the lead to 3-2 at 12:32 on the PP. Eastview answered back when Logan Opgrand #2 made it 4-2 on the PP with an unassisted goal from the point. The Bears scored a short-handed goal at 15:19 to make the core 4-3 Eastview after two periods. Shots at the end of the 2nd period were 23-22 in favor of Eastview. Eastview scored a big goal at 4:28 to take a 5-3 lead when Tanner Kronberg #17 scored an even strength goal on a tipped shot from Logan Opgrand #2. Eastview took what appeared to be a commanding 6-3 lead at 10:46 of the 3rd period on the PP when Jordan Brothers #11 scored on a snipe from the left circle with assists to John Kisch #5 and Zach Wooten #9. Eastview benefited from a major penalty against their opponent for the third game in a row. White Bear then scored a late PP goal at 16:37 to make the final score 6-4. Final shots for the game were 33-31 in favor of the Bears. Lightning goalie Jay Svaren #32 improved to 6-1, with another solid effort in goal. The Lightning have yet another big game vs. Lakeville South Saturday night December 17th in Lakeville.
Eastview Lightning vs. the Prior Lake Lakers – December 13, 2022
The Lightning squared off against the Lakers at Apple Valley Sports Arena on Tuesday evening. No goals in the first period but Eastview carried the play, outshooting the Lakers 12-5. Charlie Ortman #26 opened the scoring at 4:32 of the 2nd period with an assist to Billy Downs #23 with a snipe from the left circle beating the Prior Lake goalie top shelf over the blocker, almost bar down. Billy downs #23 made it 2-0 on the Power Play (PP) at 6:06 when he neatly tucked the puck away with an assist to Kevin Woehler #24. Jordan Brothers #11 joined the party at 10:19 of the 2nd with an even strength goal, making it 3-0, with assists to Logan Opgrand #2 and Charlie Ortman #26. The Lightning benefited from another 5-minute major penalty for the second game in a row, when Tanner Kronberg #17 scored on that PP at 11:39 from Zach Wooten #9 and John Kisch #5, making it 4-0. Logan Opgrand #2 finished the scoring in the 2nd period at 14:34 on a 5 on 3 PP, with assists to John Kisch #5 and Charlie Ortman #26, making it 5-0 Lightning. The Lightning outshot the Lakers 21-3 in the middle frame, with total shots ending up 33-8 at the end of the 2nd period. The Lakers scored an even strength goal at 11:57 of the 3rd period to break up Jay Svaren’s shut out, making the final score 5-1 Eastview. Final shots for the game were 36 for the Lightning and 20 for Prior Lake. Goalie Jay Svaren #32 played well, improving to 5-1 on the season. The Lightning are back in action on the road on Thursday evening December 15th against the White Bear Lake Bears.
JV SPORTS
Eastview High School Girls Junior Varsity Basketball beat Prior Lake High School 50-32
The JV Girls Basketball team defeated Prior Lake by a score of 50-32. The team moved the ball extremely well, netting 13 assists and committing only 10 turnovers.
Eastview High School Girls Junior Varsity Basketball beat Hopkins High School 76-34
The JV Girls Basketball team knocked off Hopkins last Friday with tough defense and balanced scoring. Everyone on the team put up some points to contribute to the 76 point total.
The Eastview JV Boys Hockey team had 2 games this week. On Tuesday they took on Prior Lake and lost 6 to 2. Tae Kalthoff got a goal in the 2nd period with an assist from Abram Johnson. In the third, Kalthoff scored again with an assist from Owen Iikubo. Kaden Goff was in goal for the first period and had 13 saves. Ty Young played in his first high school game and had 13 saves in the 2nd period and 13 saves in the 3rd period. On Thursday, the JV Boys played White Bear Lake. Tae Kalthoff and Louis Rogers both scored in the 2nd period. Kaden Goff had 25 saves. The game ended in a 2 to 2 tie. This Saturday, the Eastview Boys Hockey team takes on Lakeville South at Hasse Arena in Lakeville. JV plays at 5 pm.
9TH GRADE SPORTS
9th Grade Wrestling Announcements
Several members of the Eastview Lightning 9th Grade Wrestling Team competed at the Maple Grove Crimson JV Invite at Maple Grove on Saturday December 10th, 2022.
Lightning wrestlers claiming 1st were: Aryan Karimnejad and Aiden Frost.
Finishing in 2nd place were: Ryan Layeux and Beau McKenzie.
Finishing in 3rd place was Marcus McKinley.
The Eastview Lightning 9th Grade Wrestling Team competed in a double dual event against Rosemount and Farmington at home on Tuesday December 13th, 2022.
The Lightning were defeated by Rosemount by a score of 54-30. Earning falls for the Lightning were: Kayan Karimnejad, Beau McKenzie, Aiden Frost, and Killian Russel.
Ryan Layeux won an exhibition bout. Tino Caffieri, Diego Caffieri, Kiernan Lee, and Abdul Ozman also competed with valiant effort.
The Lightning defeated Farmington by a score of 36-30. Earning a fall for the Lightning was Gavin Thiem. Several team points were claimed by forfeit.

The Eastview Men’s Volleyball program has started off-season open gyms for guys who are planning on playing next spring, or guys who are thinking about it and want to learn more. INTRAMURAL SPORTS
Intramural Basketball sign up is now available on MyPaymentsPlus. Sign up deadline is Friday, Dec. 16th. The Intramural Basketball season runs from Jan. 4th to Feb. 27th.
Team selection and an informational meet will be held after school at 2:45pm in C350 on Tuesday, Dec. 20th for 9th and 10th students, and on Wednesday, Dec. 21st for 11th and 12th grade students.

The next Spanish Club meeting will take place after school on Monday, Dec 19 in B326. We will learn about the holiday celebration called “posadas.” There will be music, food, crafts and a piñata. All are welcome.

National Art Honor Society (ART CLUB) – The 2022 NAHS Winterfest Party will take place at our next meeting on 12/21/Wednesday. Bring a snack to share. Games, button making, etc.

German Club will be meeting after school on Wednesday the 21st to build Lebkuchenhäuser (Gingerbread houses).
New: EVHS Mock Trial Competes in SSC Tournament
The Eastview Mock Trial team participated in its first in-person competition of the season this past weekend, after two years of virtual competitions due to the pandemic. The team put in a strong showing against tough opponents at the South Suburban Conference tournament hosted by Apple Valley High School.
The varsity team went 2-2 in trials on Friday & Saturday, with judges presenting All-Conference Exemplary Performance awards for attorneys to junior Raavi Singh (2) and senior co-captain Anna Singh. For witnesses, Raavi Singh also earned All-Conference honors, joined by senior Ian Machalak and rookie Mia Noonan.
In the novice (JV) division, Sneha Narra earned All-Conference Exemplary Performance honors for her attorney performance, and rookies Bennet Sutherlin and Ebrahim Mohamed earned All-Conference awards for their witness portrayals.
Opposing teams designated the following Eastview team members as “Best Attorney” and “Best Witness” for each round:
- Best Witness: Senior co-captain Shruti Chandrasekar, Aavi Singh, Ebrahim Mohamed, Bennet Sutherlin
- Best Attorney: Anna Singh (3), Aavi Singh, Sneha Narra (2)
This year’s case involves a college swimmer’s claims of medical malpractice against the doctor who repaired (or didn’t) the swimmer’s torn ACL, with competing medical and behavior testimony for both sides of the case. The team will be in action again after winter break, at the Minneapple Invitational on January 7.
