The Llewellyn Friday Flyer
December 8, 2023
Dear Families,
While the rain has caused recess to be a "washout," we have been "riding the learning wave" in the classroom. Classrooms have been bustling with activities and digging in deep to complete projects, units of study, and final unit assessment and quizzes. Additionally, our teachers have been working hard to prepare Quarter 1 Report Cards and planning for conferences in January (1/10 & 11) and (1/17 & 1/18). Teachers will be contacting you very soon to set conferences appointments.
All students were to take home their Quarter 1 Report Cards today! Make sure to check your child's backpack or Take-Home Folder, if they haven't already given it to you. As a reminder, this year's report cards are different than those used in the past. They are Standards Based, meaning a number (4, 3, 2, 1) is assigned as the mark your child receives, rather than a letter. We have placed a one page explanation of the new report card inside the envelope to assist you with this change. You can find more information about the changes by clicking on the QR code. There is also information about how to view your child's report card through ParentView on the Family Page.
Lastly, I know the addition of school days during the week of December 18-22 has presented families with some tough choices. We are planning for a regular week of school. If you know your child will NOT be attending school that week, please email Mark Robb (mrobb@pps.net) or Kellie Grunde (kgrunde@pps.net) to let us know. It will help us greatly in planning for instruction that week and when we all return to school after Winter Break.
As always, feel free to contact me with your questions, ideas, or concerns at pgwynn@pps.net.
Have a great weekend!
Principal Pam

Has your child returned their Chromebook to school yet?
Dear Parents,
We have been busy collecting Chromebooks from K-2 students who borrowed them during the strike. We NEED to refill our tech carts, however there are still some missing. It is imperative that ALL Chromebooks and chords are returned as they are used frequently in class for assignments and for assessments. Please make sure your child returns their Chromebook and cord asap!

From The Community Care Team
Dear Llewellyn Community,
With the winter break and holiday fast approaching, your school counseling team is reaching out about Llewellyn's Community Care Program. This year, we have about 12 families who are in need of a little support this year. Due to the quick turnaround time, we were not able to create the usual giving tree/mittens for families to come and pick gifts to purchase. Instead, we are reaching out to ask our community to help donate gift cards for food purchases at any local grocery store, as well gift cards for gifts from either Target, Amazon, Fred Meyer, etc. A suggested gift card amount of $20-$50 is appreciated but any amount your family can give is welcomed. Any donations can be dropped by the office at any time.
We are so grateful for the continued support our community shows one another. We hope everyone has a restful and enjoyable break.
Please submit all donations by Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Thank you!
Best,
Your Llewellyn's Community Care Team
Photo Make-up & Retakes will be on December 13th
Did your student miss photo day? Was it a picture you don’t want to send Grandma? Here’s your chance to get a good one! Re-Take Day is coming up on December 13th. Please be sure your student is here between 8:30 and 10:30AM if they need to get their picture taken! If you received physical pictures, and are getting a re-take, please be sure to send the original pictures with your student to hand over to the photographers. More information can be found HERE.
Scholastic Book Fair: December 11-15
It's Book Fair Time!!! Get ready for our first book fair of the year, December 11th -December 15th! Students will visit the fair twice during the week. We are also open after school M-F until 3:15. Students can use cash, card, or an eWallet for a cashless transaction. Use the Book Fair Website for info and eWallets. Also, consider adding money to your teacher's eWallets (just ask for a link!) so they can buy books for their classroom libraries, and the Library eWallet (coming soon) that will help get books to students who can't afford them right now.
We need LOTS of volunteers to help students when they visit the fair twice during the week as well as set up on Friday, December 8, after school until 3:30ish and take down on Friday, December 15, after school. This is the library’s big fundraiser to keep our collection fresh and updated! The Fair is open after school M-F until 3:15. Students and families can use cash, card, or an eWallet for a cashless transaction. To sign up to volunteer during the fair, use this Signup Genius there are several slots open at various times and days. Use the Book Fair Website for info and eWallets.

Registration will open for all classes on 6crickets on December 18th at 8pm, so mark your calendars! Many of our favorite courses will be returning, and hopefully some new ones as well.

Welcome back everyone!
PTA Happenings
What a soggy introduction to December! We are swimming into the holiday season but are very glad to see all of the holiday giving spirit in our community. During Decemberville last weekend, the fifth grade was able to raise $650 toward their overnight trip! All the baked goods were delicious and there were some really wonderful crafts made by our talented fifth graders. Kudos to our Llewellyn community for coming out in the rain!
Make sure to visit the Book Fair in our library starting next week, December 11-15th. There will so many great gift opportunities for teachers and students! Our librarian, Ms. Street will need help with set up today and with take down next Friday as well as during the fair to help students in creating lists and checking people out. An email was sent out with a link to her SignUp Genius. Let’s help build our Llewellyn library and get our teachers some amazing books to help support their teaching in the classroom!
We are in need of volunteers for our Read-a-Thon fundraiser in January. This fundraiser will take the place of our auction and what we are hoping will be our largest fundraiser of the year. So many programs, family fun events, teacher stipends, and classroom learning materials come from the money we raise all year. Please respond to the signup on Konstella or email llewellynpta@gmail.com if you are interested in being a part of this new fundraiser. We need all hands on deck!
There will be no December PTA meeting but our next meeting will be on January 16 @ 7 pm in the Llewellyn library. Our very own Llewellyn parent, Lahela Isaacson, will be our guest speaker. Lahela is a therapist that works with children ages 3-10 and specializes in autism spectrum disorders and sensory processing challenges, emotional regulation, developmental challenges, parent coaching and family/dyadic therapy. Last year she spoke about neurodivergent learners and how to best support them in the classroom and at home. Her presentation is one you won’t want to miss!

DINE OUT at MAEVE Sunday, December 10th, 10am-8pm
Maeve will not only be extending their hours for us but also hosting a Crepe Pop-up. It's a great time of year to support a local small business and your Llewellyn Foundation. Maeve will be donating 20% of the day's proceeds to help provide additional educational positions at Llewellyn next year. So, go stock up on your holiday wine for gifts and entertaining, and stay to enjoy a glass yourself, or coffee, and crepes. See the Flyer HERE.

School-Community COVID-19 Testing Resources: The MCHD Student Health Centers and the OHSU Benson Wellness Center are also great resources for students to access primary and mental health care as well as COVID-19 testing, vaccines and boosters.
Order more free at-home COVID-19 tests at COVID.gov/tests.

New Report Cards for 2023-24 Academic Year
During the 2022-23 school year, a team of educators from over 20 PPS elementary schools and several central office departments came together to revise our K-5 report cards. Guided by family feedback, this team worked to ensure that our report cards are:
Clear and meaningful for families;
User-friendly for educators;
Aligned with Oregon standards; and,
Differentiated to represent the needs of all of our student populations.
The team felt strongly that the revised report cards should be accompanied by a Family Report Card Guide (amended date) --so that families and educators can be well-supported in their use of these important communication tools. We welcome your feedback and suggestions regarding this resource by emailing K5academics@pps.net.
For Quarter One ONLY- Specialists (such as music, PE, Dance, Art and Library) will NOT be entering grades or comments. You can expect grades and comments in Quarter 2.
LLEWELLYN TEACHERS WILL BE SENDING HOME REPORT CARDS ON 12/08
Look for them in your child's backpacks!!! 😀
