HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Dear River Hill Families,
Happy New Year! As we welcome in 2024, I hope this message finds you and your family refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready for the exciting opportunities this new year brings.
The beginning of the new year is the time we begin to focus on registering for classes for next school year (2024 - 2025). Our counselors will begin meeting with students to discuss options in their four year plans and teachers have finalized their recommendations for course levels. This Thursday, January 4 at 7:00 pm is our Academic Programs and Scheduling Night. Please plan to come join us for an informative evening of all the options available to students. Our guidance counselors and department leaders (math, science, English, social studies, world language, CTE) will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. Please plan to join us for this important event to assist your decision-making for your child(ren) for the upcoming school year. More detailed information may be found on our website under Course Registration Information. Please note that the 6:30 pm session is for current 8th grade families matriculating to River Hill next year.
A huge congratulations to both our boys and girls basketball teams for their outstanding performances in their respective tournaments. Our boys' team showed exceptional skill and teamwork, leading them to a glorious victory in the Quince Orchard Tournament. Simultaneously, our girls' team demonstrated their prowess on the court, dominating the Winters Mill Tournament with their exceptional play. These triumphs are a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the spirit of excellence that embodies our athletic program. Please join us this Friday, January 5, for a Varsity Basketball Doubleheader! This event promises to be a thrilling showcase of skill, teamwork, and school spirit. It's an excellent opportunity for our community to come together, cheer on our teams, and celebrate the talents of our young athletes. See the information below.
In addition to basketball, our indoor track team had the opportunity to showcase their talents in a competitive meet in New York. Their participation in such a prestigious event highlights the caliber of our athletes and the strength of our track program. Meanwhile, our wrestling team took part in the challenging Westminster Duals, finishing 11th. Their resilience and determination in the face of tough competition were truly commendable.
These achievements are not just a reflection of the athletes' commitment (during their winter break!) but also of the unwavering support and guidance provided by our dedicated coaches. Their efforts in preparing our students, even during the break, have been instrumental in these successes.
As we settle into the rhythm of this new year, I would like to bring to your attention an important aspect of our daily school life that needs our collective focus – punctuality. Just before our winter break, we noticed an uptick in the number of students arriving late to school. Being on time is crucial as it sets the tone for the day, ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities, and fosters a sense of responsibility and respect for others.
We understand that mornings can be busy and sometimes unpredictable. However, consistent tardiness can significantly impact a child’s educational experience. Arriving late can be disruptive to the class and can also cause your child to miss vital information.
Our goal is to work collaboratively with you to support your child’s success. Timely arrival at school is a key part of this. We are here to help and support you and your child, so please do not hesitate to reach out if there are challenges or concerns regarding getting to school on time.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your continued support and cooperation. Here's to a punctual, productive, and prosperous 2024.
Have a fantastic week!
Warmest regards,
Robert A. Motley
