Staff/Student Spotlight
Ms. Restivo
Ms. Restivo has been a teacher at PMSA since we opened our doors in 2005! She has taught all grade levels here at PMSA and all levels of Spanish, including AP, IB and Spanish Immersion. Currently, she and Madame Duvall are co-sponsoring the World Language National Honor Societies. She hopes that you keep WLNHS in mind for your junior and senior years here at PMSA!
Q: What activities/sports have you sponsored?
A: I have always had great students and great colleagues. It feels like family here at PMSA!
Q: What do you love most about teaching here at PMSA?
A: There are so many things that it's hard to narrow it down to one. What always feels the best to me is when I see something from class really click or feel relatable to a student. I'm passionate about Spanish and the Spanish speaking world and I love to see that same enthusiasm in my students.
Q: What is an interesting fact (s) that many do not know about you?
A: I love to read science fiction books! My favorite series is the Hunger Games!
Q: What book (s) are you currently reading?
A: I just finished reading the pre-qual to the Hunger Games.
Q: Is there anything that you would like to tell the school community?
A: Star Wars was the first movie I was able to sit through in its entirety when I was a kid.
Jermaine Shirlee
Jermaine Shirlee is a senior at PMSA. He is the vice president of the Black Student Union (BSU). He has participated in after school intramurals for the last two years. Outside of school, he participates in Spikes and Stars, a 5K race to raise money for charity, cancer patients, and countries in need. The race is held at Madison Elementary School in Lombard, IL.
Q: What is your most memorable moment as a student at PMSA?
A: Last year's Black History Assembly. I recited a poem by Langston Hughes called "Negro". I wanted to present a poem that would change the meaning of the derogatory word. I wanted to send the message that we were Kings and Queens, and the poem encapsulates the theme of growth.
Q: What do you love most about PMSA?
A: I love the students. Our school is diverse and prior to coming to PMSA, I was not used to that experience. I have met people here from different cultures and I have learned a lot.
Q: What are your plans post high school?
A: I would like to attend college and become a software engineer.
Q: What is your number 1 college choice?
A: I would like to attend the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign.
Q: What is your favorite subject(s)?
A: Literature. I love writing and reading about different philosophies through stories.
Q: What is your favorite book?
A: A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin.
Q: What is something interesting about yourself that you want to share with the PMSA school community?
A: I played basketball in Middle School.
Cool Things Happening
World Language National Honor Society Induction
PMSA’s World Language National Honor Society conducted their second induction of language scholars at a ceremony on 11/30/23. Inducted students completed a rigorous application process and will be held to high standards of academic integrity and community service. They will promote their languages of study as well as help other develop a greater understanding of the francophone and Spanish-speaking world. The ceremony was largely conducted by returning members of both the French and Spanish National Honor Societies.
G A L L E R Y on Five
Gallery on Five is displaying new work. Come see the amazing artwork from the dedicated and talented students. The art is located on the 5th floor across from the elevators.
Why?
AP Digital Imaging students create a portfolio of artwork throughout the year that emanates from the inquiry-based Sustained Investigation statement of their choice. What matters to me and why? The art is created to answer the questions.
Throughout the year the growing Sustained Investigation Portfolios must show evidence of practice, synthesis, experimentation, and revision that is guided by their question(s) or inquiry.
This is the beginning of our journey.

French Field Trip
Students from Ms. Duvall’s DP French classes visited the Haitian American Museum of Chicago on 11/21/23 where they saw authentic Haitian art and enjoyed a Haitian meal. Students learned more about the diversity and richness of the French-speaking world and discussed cultural heritage and ethical vs. unethical acquisition of art.
