Keeping Elyria's parents, staff and students in the know.
Dear Families,
Welcome spring!
April, May and June are often the memory-making months of the school year when students are participating in entertaining end-of-year events like assemblies, field days, incentive trips, outdoor learning, and of course, the multitude of activities taking place at the high school level.
We're enjoying these opportunities to celebrate these moments together, and to truly build on the relationships that have been taking shape all year between students and staff.
The delight on our students faces when they are together and having fun says it all. We look forward to many more of these moments next year.
In reflecting on the current school year and the one to come, I recently sat down with Amy Higgins, our communications director, to talk candidly about the events of the year -- from challenges to truimphs.
Each year we present the State of the Schools, which is wrap-up of the year covering our instructional work, financial aspects of the district and some of the main highlights and areas we're putting particular focus on.
This year we decided to present the State of the Schools in video format so it could be viewed at your convenience. You'll find the video link directly following this message.
The video is about 30 minutes long and it includes video highlights from the schools themselves, so you're bound to see some familiar faces.
I hope you have the opportunity to sit down with your students and family members to watch the video and share their experiences this year. Please talk with them about their hopes and expectations for next year, as well.
As always, thank you for all you do to support learning at home. Foundations are built there, and we recognize and appreciate the many ways you support the work that's happening in the Elyria Schools.
Enjoy the sunshine and spring air, and celebrate the moments to come this school year!

School Calendar Change: Learn at Home on May 27
The May calendar has been adjusted to include a learn at home day on Friday, May 27.
On May 27, students will not attend school in person; they will learn independently at home.
Students will be assigned work by their teachers that can be completed at home without the need for computers or Internet service.
The teachers will provide their students with pertinent information on when the assignments are due and on grading of the assignments.
While students are learning from home on May 27, teachers and school staff will be engaged in professional development on classroom strategies to continue supporting positive behaviors in our schools.
Students are also off on Monday, May 30, for Memorial Day.
