Getting to know Us!
By now most of you have had the opportunity to stop in and meet Julie and the staff at Calico Cottage. During the next few months, we will be featuring an employee so you get to know us just a bit better. Next up is Ann Hinton because fall is her favorite season!
Ann says: Everett and I have been married for 46 years and have 3 grown children. Becky and Jeff live in York with their three children Lily, Trevor and Abby. Lane and Kayla live in Tabor, Iowa, with their children Ella and Halle. Their son Eli is out on his own. Trent and Tyler live in York with their two boys Callen and Clay. The grandchildren range in age from 9 - 20. I taught high school business classes before marrying and moving to Nebraska. I was born in DeKalb, Texas, went to college in Arkansas, and taught school in Ontario, Canada. That's where I met my husband who was also teaching at the school. Everett was from Nebraska, and that's where we ended up after marriage. I worked as a title insurance agent and abstractor for twenty years and then went to work in the Register of Deeds office at the courthouse. I eventually ran for office and served as Register of Deeds for one term before retiring. Then after staying home for three years, I decided I needed to get out with people. Julie was kind enough to hire me as a part time clerk. I have many hobbies including quilting, counted cross stitch, machine embroidery and cake decorating.
Here are a few questions we asked Ann to get to know her just a bit better.
Favorite Color: Blue. If you have seen any of my quilts, you know that I put blue in most of them
- Favorite Season: Fall. I love to watch the leaves turn on the trees.
- Morning/Night: I am very much a morning person. I get up early most mornings. Then I tend to fall asleep in my recliner each evening.
Childhood Deams: I always wanted to be a teacher, wife and mother.
- Inspiration: My faith in God sustains me.
Favorite food: Fried chicken although there isn't a lot of food that I don't like
- Best Vacation: We have driven to Alaska twice. That is a marvelous trip. There is so much to see between here and there.
- Words to live by: Keep a positive attitude.
-
Notions: My rotary cutter and rulers. Quilting would have been so much harder before those tools were available.
