Unity Foundation Teacher Grants - DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 10
HURRY! Applications are due September 10th for small teacher grants from the Michigan City Education Foundation, Barbara A. Carmen Memorial Endowment Fund, and Teacher Innovation Fund. These funds provide $$$ for classroom projects, activities, and materials; there are programs for K-8 teachers and for 9-12 (both MCHS and AK Smith). Don't delay! Click here to apply online!
Wondering if you should apply? Here's a testimonial from Lake Hills teacher Liz Law (Unity used this in its press release about the grant program this year!):
“This grant made it possible to purchase materials to make phonics learning engaging and meaningful,” said Elizabeth Law, Lake Hills Elementary teacher and 2022-2023 MCEF grant recipient. “Many students have surpassed district, classroom, and personal goals. I would highly recommend educators continue to apply for this grant to enhance their teaching. The grant process is easy to navigate and provides educators with resources that they may not normally have.”
Donors Choose is here to help!
Did you know that MCAS is a "partner district" with the crowdfunding platform Donors Choose? This is an easy way for teachers to post needs for classroom projects, materials, and equipment. (MCAS teachers have received more than $407,000 in support through Donors Choose, with 921 projects fully funded!) Learn more here.

Save the Date! United Way Car Wash Set for August 25th
MCAS, the Michigan City Police Dept, and the Michigan City Fire Department are joining together to wash cars for the United Way on Friday, August 25, from 11:00am - 5:30pm. The wash will take place at the Sodexo Plant Planning parking lot, across from Ames Field.
The cost is $5.00 ... or whatever amount you would like to donate to support the United Way. An "Elite Wash" option is available for donors of $100 or more. (You'll get a certificate, photo, and a thank-you gift from United Way.)
This is always a FUN-filled event! There will be free hot dogs, candy, and more. Please encourage everyone you know to bring their dirty vehicles for a wash. (There is also a "Waterless Wash" option, in case you'd just like to make a donation and skip the wash.)
