Kindergarten Welcome Week
Kindergarten Only
Anoka-Hennepin has a tradition of hosting a “Welcome Week” for kindergarten students, to ensure each student has the time and opportunity to focus on new experiences. The goal is to ensure all students and families get off to a strong start.
Kindergarten families should schedule an individual meeting with your child’s teacher on Sept. 5 or Sept. 6
Families will be invited to schedule a one-on-one opportunity to meet your teacher, drop off school supplies, and familiarize your child with their new classroom. These meetings will be scheduled in 20 minute time slots and will be offered on Tuesday, September 5, and Wednesday, September 6. Please go to www.myconferencetime.com/Hamilton to schedule this time with a kindergarten teacher.
For kindergarten students, school begins in a phased approach on Sept. 7 or Sept. 8
This means that half of the students will attend school on Thursday, Sept. 7 and the other half of the students will attend school on Friday, Sept. 8.
Thursday, Sept. 7: Kindergarten students with last names beginning with A-L attend in person.
Friday, Sept. 8: Kindergarten students with last names beginning with M-Z attend in person.
All kindergarten students will attend school on Monday, September 11th.
Safety First
We're taking our time
Because we prioritize the safety of our students, we ask that you be patient while we get procedures underway. It takes time for everyone to learn new routines. This is probably most challenging when it comes to our parent drop-off and pick-up. While we get families familiar with our routines, be patient. Below is a picture of the parent drop-off and pick-up area. Enter the second driveway on the North side of the school. Follow the signs up through the parking lot where you will be directed by staff to enter the parent drop-off/pick-up loop. When entering the loop, please pull all the way forward so we can move cars through efficiently. Another note of caution is to please have your children exit the car on the curbside so other vehicles can exit safely. Please have children ready to go. In other words... quick hugs and kisses!
Family Connections
We welcome a partnership with your family
This week's family connection tip is to begin working on consistent bedtime routines. Now that summer is coming to an end and school has started it can be difficult to shift children's sleep habits. Start slowly by limiting technology an hour before bedtime. Spend some time getting clothes laid out for the next day, brushing teeth while humming the ABC's, and spending 10-15 minutes reading. This routine will become a good habit if practiced the first 21 days of school and hopefully you will see the difference in your child waking up and being ready to go!
