Hello Rabbit Creek,
We received information last week from the district in regards to the Karate Club previously discussed (and maybe even registered for!). Unfortunately, ASD does not allow martial arts classes any longer in schools. Some will remember such classes in years past, and also at our school last year. Expectations and policies do change, which is the reason for review for all of our activities at Rabbit Creek. The inability to do the Karate Class was news to me and I know many in our community who were looking forward to the activity with Mr. Nees.
We have made it through our days where we were making up time from lost school days in December. Starting Monday, March 20th, the school day will return to starting at 9:00 and ending at 3:30. Thank you to everyone who supported our school and students over the past few weeks. This change impacted each person in a school community-staff, parents, and students. It will be good to return to our 'normal 'routine very soon.
Friday is a NO school day for students, as teachers will be working on grading for the 3rd quarter of the year. Somehow we are nearing the final 9 weeks of the year...?
Wishing all of our students, families and staff a wonderful Spring Break week.

Science Fair-Happening Now!
From Mrs. Bookman, Our Science Fair Coordinator:
We have a creative group of projects at this year's fair. I am impressed with the thought and detail students put into the work. The experiments are on display in the library during the school day for student viewing and the library will open TONIGHT (3/8) for the community. This will be an open house style event. Students with projects are welcome to share their work with their families but are not required to attend. The library will be open from 5:30-7:30pm. We look forward to sharing these innovative projects with the community.

AK STAR and Science Assessments
2023 AK STAR and Alaska Science Assessment
Each spring, Alaskan students are provided an opportunity to show what they know. When students show what they know, teachers and parents can partner to promote student success. The State of Alaska Department of Education has partnered with NWEA to align and connect the English language arts (ELA) and mathematics tests with the MAP Growth benchmark assessments students take in fall and winter.
This balanced assessment system targets instruction to better support meeting students’ individual learning needs. In addition, students will take only one assessment per content area (ELA and math) and be provided two scores as follows:
Summative assessment result at grade-level
MAP Growth interim benchmark result , including growth from fall to spring
AK STAR, the Alaska System of Academic Readiness, is comprised of English language arts and mathematics and is administered to students in grades 3-9. The Alaska Science Assessment is administered to students in grades 5, 8 and 10. The purpose of a large-scale, summative assessment is to provide parents and schools an overall picture of a student’s progress in meeting the Alaska standards at grade level.
Parents can locate resources for AK STAR test and the Alaska Science Assessment, including directions for Student Readiness (Practice Tests and Tutorials), student testing times and general assessment information on the ASD website at https://www.asdk12.org/akstar.
Parents can also help by ensuring their children are well rested, eat a nutritious breakfast, and are at school on time for the days of testing. Please avoid scheduling appointments on your child’s testing days.
The ASD AK STAR and Alaska Science Assessment testing window allows for school assessment scheduling flexibility. Students! Get ready to show what you know during our school’s AK STAR and Alaska Science Assessment testing dates:
March 27th-5th grade students will take the Science Assessments
Testing dates for grade levels for AK STAR to be shared by March 20th.

Hello Rabbit Creek Families,
I can’t believe that Spring Break is almost here. Where does the time go? I hope you and your families have a relaxing break.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Dine to Donate night at Texas Roadhouse.
The Science Fair is being held from March 6-8th. I can’t wait to see all of these amazing projects.
Mrs. Barnes has arranged a Book Fair at the end of March at Barnes and Noble. They will donate money back to Rabbit Creek for books purchased.
You can still purchase memory books at ybpay.com with the Yearbook ID code of 13268823. The books are $20 each and parents can decide to personalize the book with their child’s school photo on the front, if they wish.
Please join us Tuesday, April 11th in the RC library for our next PTA meeting. To stay up to date with current PTA issues and activities, refer to our PTA website www.rabbitcreekpta.org and our closed PTA Facebook group "Rabbit Creek Elementary PTA".
