Pirates ROCK Character Trait: PRIDE (September)
Pirates R.O.C.K. (Raising Outstanding Character Kids) is a program designed to surround our families with examples of strong character traits through school experiences, at home, and reinforced in their community. Each month our community focuses on a specific character trait and students are recognized for exhibiting these traits: Self Confidence, Pride, Responsibility, Citizenship, Compassion, Individuality, Self Control, Integrity, Perseverance, Respect, Honesty, and Cooperation.
September's #PiratesROCK trait is PRIDE: a feeling of self respect & worth.

From Coach Mosh
Physical Education loves having our students back in the building and we especially love when they wear athletic shoes!
- Flip Flops = Kids Drop and they are only allowed to fast-walk while in loose footwear.
- Leaving an old pair of athletic shoes in a student's cubby is highly welcomed at Barry!
- If you have any questions or would like some help getting a pair of shoes, email masciovj@platteco.k12.mo.us
Coach Mosh has a Twitter (aka "X") and you don't have to make an account, at all to see it!
- Just search for the account "Coach Mosh"
- Enjoy the show that is Elementary P.E! #BeBarry
The Heart Hero Board outside the gym needs some love!
- You and your student can share one individual or family photo of you all getting active!
- Send a copy of the photo to school with your student or email it to Coach Mosh at masciovj@platteco.k12.mo.us
- We are excited to see your health adventures!
IMPROVEMENTS: Final Phase
Barry School Store 🏪 (to be named by students)
Please visit our Barry School Store website!
We are so excited to be opening a school store this fall to promote school spirit and pride at Barry Elementary. We will sell items such as pencils, erasers, pencil grips, notebooks, etc. The possibilities for inventory are endless. The store will eventually be run by student employees who will calculate purchases, make change, count and record inventory, and complete checks and balances of inventory and sales. Additionally, older students will be afforded leadership opportunities by teaching and mentoring younger students. All proceeds from the store will directly benefit the students and the school. We are excited for our students to gain valuable real-world experience in the areas of teamwork, responsibility, leadership, and customer service as they learn lifelong skills!
If you have any questions, want to volunteer or make a donation, please contact Blaire Zessin or Teddi Weber.
Professional Learning Days (PLD)
On Monday, September 11, school will not be in session for our first Professional Learning Community (PLC) day of the 2023-24 school year. **NOTE - we have moved from early release PLC days to full PLC days starting with the 2023-24 school year.
PLC days are designed to establish sustained and uninterrupted time for teachers to work together and collaborate to improve student learning and achievement. This time allows educators to examine and respond to the four basic fundamental questions of a Professional Learning Community:
- What is it we want students to learn?
- How will we know when each student has achieved the learning?
- How will we respond when a student is not learning?
- How will we respond when we know a child has mastered the learning?
For more information on PCR-3's Professional Learning Community, visit the PLC page on the district's website.

Coming-In the Building
Visiting the building: you will always need to bring your ID with you when you come into the building. We will scan your ID into our safety system Platte County uses to ensure the safety and security of our students. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to keep all students safe!
Resource Checklist Needs Assessment
Below is a resource assessment for families, from our social worker.
At the beginning of each school year we ask parents and guardians to fill out our Resource Checklist on paper. This year we are asking you to complete the Resource Checklist electronically using this form. This brief questionnaire is your School Social Worker's first and primary way to help you access support services. It also lets us know if you are interested in giving back to your school community. Please do not hesitate to contact your School Social Worker if you have any questions.
Repeated: But Still Important
Parent Portal
Parents can use Parent Portal (www.plattecountyschooldistrict.com/parents/parent_portal) to keep up to date on grades and assignments, attendance, and we will soon have active links to meal payments and fees. Parents should have received their new PowerSchool Access ID and Password on Meet the Teacher Night. If you need your child's code, please email kumpfl@platteco.k12.mo.us
Below is how to create a Parent Portal Account with your child's Access Code.
This is NOT the same login as when you did enrollment in PowerSchool.
This needs to be done on a browser – NOT in the app.
In your browser, type https://platte.powerschool.com/public
Click on “Create Account” – NOT Sign-In
Enter all Parent Account details – This is for a Parent Account – NOT a student Account
In the "Add Students to Account” area, enter the Access ID and Access Password given on the letter for each student.
Once you have created your account, you will then need to go to your email to validate your account.
Now you can download the App if you would like to use your phone in the future. On the App, search for the district Platte County R-3 School District.
Transportation Changes
If you need to change your child's transportation at the end of the day, please call our front office at 816-436-9623 to let them know and/or email your child's teacher. This will help us know how your child will get home to ensure the safety of your student.
