Principal's Report - Dr. Phillip Reavis
2016 Kindergarten and 1st Grade Registration
Registration for kindergarten and first grade in Greenville County Schools will be held Monday – Thursday, January 11-14, 2016. Children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2016 must enroll in public or private kindergarten, unless the parent or legal guardian signs a waiver. Any child who will be six years old on or before September 1, 2016 must enroll in first grade (students currently enrolled in Oakview’s kindergarten do not need to be registered for first grade). The school office is open from 7:30-4:00. Registration paperwork can be found on the school’s web site or in the Oakview front office. To enroll a new student in kindergarten or first grade, a parent must present the following at registration:
- State-issued Birth Certificate
- Properly Completed Immunization Certificate or Religious Exemption Certificate
- Two Forms of Proof of Residence (two documents required such as a current utility bill or copy of lease agreement)
Internet Safety for Children
Last week, 2nd-5th grade students attended assemblies focused on internet safety. Age appropriate information related to online etiquette, cyber bullying, and personal safety were all presented. Over 50 Oakview parents also attended a workshop on internet safety sponsored by our guidance department. As parents of children who are growing up in the digital age, it is crucial that we understand how to protect them. Happy 2016, Oakview families! I hope that your winter break went well and that you are ready for a fabulous second half of the school year! This month PTA will be hosting Family Game Night and Art Show for 4th and 5th graders on Friday, January 29. Be on the lookout for more information in your child's backpack soon! And, if you are looking to clear out your closets and have any unopened toys, feel free to send them to school to be recycled as Bingo prizes! There will be a box located on the stage for donations.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your PTA, email me at cblinston@charter.net and I will be happy to help!
