Principal's Message
Dear Bernal Families:
I thought I would start this month’s newsletter with a new year’s quote:
Take a leap of faith and begin this wondrous New Year by believing. Believe in yourself. And believe that there is a loving Source - a Sower of Dreams - just waiting to be asked to help you make your dreams come true. Sarah Ban Breathnach
I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season filled with reflection, family, friends and lots of laugher. The new year is upon us and our teachers and staff have returned to work fully refreshed, vibrant and renewed in their commitment and dedication to create an enriching and fulfilling learning environment for your student every single day. Our second round of benchmark testing was completed before the holiday and our teachers and instructional support staff will be spending more time analyzing the results and recalibrating their instructional goals with your students, based on the results.
A final reminder, end of the semester is January 12th. Be sure your students are checking their grades on school loop so there will be no surprises at the end of the term. Have a great month of January!

Big Band Bash!
Professional Band performing at Bernal!
The Big Band Bash is returning to Bernal on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 6:30-9:00pm. Big Band Bash is the Bernal band program’s annual fundraising concert. Come enjoy a festival style concert with food and drinks while you listen to Bernal’s advanced bands playing jazz, rock, and latin tunes concluding with a performance by a professional big band.
This year the featured professional band will be Full Spectrum Jazz, a full 18 piece big band (performing at 7:45pm). The highly acclaimed Full Spectrum Jazz has delighted audiences with traditional and modern jazz since 1996. Performance styles range from laid-back Count Basie swing to poly-rhythmic modern Latin. Full Spectrum Jazz has a diverse catalog of exceptional music, including original compositions and venerable jazz standards.
Tickets are available for advance purchase from band students in January, or at the door. Donations of food and drink are requested. Contact Ms. Fennern for more information.
