Cyber Safety: Social Media
Social media is not inherently bad and in fact can be a great way for your children to explore the world, express individuality and connect with friends - as long as they do so safely. Let your kids know to stop and think before they post comments or pictures and to never share personal information like age, school, address, full name or when parents are not home.
Communicate and Supervise
Anything posted or sent through the internet is impossible to fully remove, communicate this to your kids.
- Respect and follow age requirement rules- they are in place for a reason.
- Make parental approval of social groups or networks part of your house rules.
- Talk about what is an acceptable and respectable post.
- “Friend” or “follow” your kids so you can check in on their social media activity. You don't have to participate, just take a look as often as possible.
- Data provided to a social network is stored and, most of the time, it is shared by default. Ensure your child’s profile is set to private. Go into settings and help them adjust the default controls.
- Remember that even though your child’s profile may be set to private, that will not prevent them from seeing what others post and share.
- Check for safety, blocking, and reporting resources on each site being used.

Chromebook Safety & Care
LOST DEVICES
We are receiving a large number of tickets from school sites and from students stating students have lost their devices. Chromebooks range in cost from $389 to $758. We understand that devices may have been misplaced over the summer, but please make every effort to locate lost devices before submitting a ticket for device replacement.
Once a device has been reported lost or stolen, it will be locked and unusable.
SAFETY
- Keep devices secure. Do not leave them in an area that isn't secure, such as on a table at school during lunchtime or in a car visible to anyone who looks inside.
- Only use your device, not another student's device.
- Sign out of your device when you aren't using it.
- Keep passwords in a SECRET location and do not share your password with others.
BASIC CARE
Keep food and drinks away from devices
Carry devices with both hands and never run with a device.
Keep your device charged.
Turn Chromebook devices off at regular intervals to receive proper updates.
