GMS Weekly Newsletter
GMS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 8, 2023
Good Evening Wolf Pack Families,
It has been a great week at GMS. Our students have really started the year strong and we are so proud of the excellent behavior they are demonstrating in the classroom, hallways and cafeteria! Our Teaching Staff have begun content related instruction in their classrooms. Students will be slowly introduced to homework and assessments as they acclimate back from summer. Please use Family Access to see how your student is progressing in each of their classes. This is a great tool to use as a conversation starter with your student in terms of their progress throughout each marking period.
In MS, all students need a personal laptop or acquire a District Chromebook (1:1 Learning). Please see the important Chromebook information below if your child does not have a device. Many of the assignments and assessments that students need to complete on a daily basis are only accessible through online resources.
Please consider joining us at our monthly PTSA meetings beginning next week. This is a great way to stay informed and involved. If this is not possible, joining the PTSA is also needed and appreciated. We would love to have more of our families join. It's a great way to support our staff, students and school. More details below if you are interested.
Wishing you all a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Stuart Riley
Principal, Geisler Middle School

8th Grade Washington DC Trip
SAVE THE DATE! Our annual 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. will be held April 30 to May 4, 2024. 8th grade families interested in attending the DC trip should plan on joining us for our Informational Parent Meeting on Wednesday, September 20 at 5:45pm in the GMS Learning Commons, just prior to the Curriculum Night class sessions. We will have our tour representative from Corporate Travel on hand to share trip information, how to register, and answer any questions about the trip.
To help offset the cost of the DC trip, all GMS students are encouraged to participate in our first fundraiser of the year. Information, along with catalogs and order forms, went home this week in social studies classes. Additional packets can be picked up in front of the attendance office. Please click here to read an informational flyer on the fundraiser. Families are able to create an account for their student so the link can be shared with friends and family members across the country. Money collected will go towards their individual DC trip account. 6th & 7th grade students will have their funds saved until they reach 8th grade. The fundraiser is now open and runs until Friday, September 22. Order pick up will be on October 24 at GMS.
Please reach out to Mr. Yu at TorryYu@wlcsd.org for questions about the DC trip.
Sports Update
Our Fall Sports begin next week. We are so excited to see our Volleyball and Cross Country Teams compete! We encourage fans to come out and support our student athletes, however, students must be accompanied by an adult if they wish to attend a GMS sporting event and they must follow the same behavior expectations outlined in our student code of conduct and Geisler Way Matrix. Students who are not accompanied by an adult will be asked to call a family member to get picked up instead of being able to attend the event. This is a WL Middle School Policy. We hope to see you at our athletic events this season. Go Wolves!

Food Service Information Update
This year, breakfast and lunch are FREE to all students! This week we have had a great number of students taking advantage of this great opportunity. With the increase in numbers of students eating cafeteria meals, lunch has taken longer for students to get through the lines. We are already working on procedures to speed lunch lines up so that students have plenty of time to eat and get a few minutes of free time. Please be patient as we continue to refine the process. We promise it will continue to get better. Students who bring their id’s with them are able to move more quickly through the lines. Please encourage your child to bring their id badge every day. We have noticed that there are a few students who have “blocked” food service accounts from prior years. In order for your child to receive a free meal, the block must be lifted. Please email Annemerchant@wlcsd.org to lift the block. You can keep the “snack items” blocked to prevent your child from being able to purchase additional items that are for sale during lunch time. Please make sure you communicate that request to the email above as well.
