January Newsletter
Sage Point Elementary School Newsletter January 2024
Dear Sage Point Families,
Happy New Year! We hope this newsletter finds you in good health and high spirits as we embark on another exciting month at Sage Point Elementary. As we welcome January, the cold weather has settled in, and while we haven't seen any snowflakes dancing yet, Mother Nature might surprise us soon.
Winter Concert - January 25th: Mark your calendars for the highlight of the month - our much-anticipated Winter Concert! Join us on January 25th as our talented students showcase their musical abilities. It promises to be a delightful event, filled with melodious tunes and festive cheer. More details can be found below in our newsletter.
Winter Wardrobe Reminder: As temperatures drop, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the cold weather. Warm jackets, hats, gloves, and scarves are essential to keep our students cozy during recess and outdoor activities. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us create a comfortable and safe learning environment.
Classroom Highlights: Our dedicated teachers have exciting plans for January, incorporating winter-themed activities into the curriculum. From snowflake crafts to winter science experiments, students will engage in educational and enjoyable experiences throughout the month. Be sure to ask your child about their classroom adventures!
Upcoming Events: Stay connected with Sage Point Elementary by participating in our upcoming events.
Reminders: If your child is unwell, please notify the school office as soon as possible.
As we navigate the winter season, let's continue to work together to make Sage Point Elementary a warm and inviting place for our students. Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to a fantastic month ahead!
Warm regards,
Robin Kimbro, Principal
Wildcat Schedule
Inclement Weather Procedures
Sometimes the weather will affect our school schedule. When that happens, the MLSD will issue direct communication between 5:15 am - 6:00 am the day of the weather related event.
Late Start - Late starts due to inclement weather are different than our normal Monday late starts. When the school district declares a "late start", elementary schools will begin at 11am. Bus routes will run 2 hours later than their normal pick-up time.
Closures - There will be no school that day.
Early Closure - Under severe emergency weather conditions, MLSD may need to proceed with early closure.
If you are not receiving communication from the school district, please click here. For more information, please contact the Moses Lake School District at (509) 766 - 2650 or info@mlsd161.org.

News from the Health Room
As we begin the new year, our school nurses want to encourage you to make healthy decisions for your child and our schools. One of the best ways you can help is by keeping your children (or yourself!) home during illnesses. Children who are ill should be kept home regardless of symptom severity, including cold or flu-type illnesses.
Please do not send your child to school sick.
24-HOUR RULE
Returning to school too soon may slow recovery and make others sick.
FEVER: Stay home until the fever has been gone without medication for 24 hours.
VOMITING or DIARRHEA: Stay home for 24 hours after the last time you vomited or had diarrhea.
If your child has been sent home with any of these symptoms, we expect they will be absent the next day too.
ONCE YOU FEEL BETTER
You may return once you are 24 hours fever, vomit, and diarrhea-free (without the use of medication) and all other symptoms are significantly improved.

Attendance Matters!
Regular attendance is critical to successful student learning. Students are expected to be at school on time. Please make every effort to assist your child to develop good habits like regular school attendance. If your child is going to be absent or late, please call the school office in the morning between 8:00am and 9:00am. We will attempt to contact the parents of students whose absences have not been excused.
The district attendance policy, 3110, and state law require students to attend school. Each time a student has an unexcused absence the parent will receive notification via letter, phone, or text from the school advising the parent of the consequences for the unexcused absence. After three unexcused absences within a month, there will be a conference between the parent and a school staff member. The purpose of the conference is to develop a strategy for improving student attendance. If the strategy fails and unexcused absences continue, the school district is required to take potential legal action by sending a petition to the juvenile court and forwarding the case to a Community Engagement Board. More specific information pertaining to excused and unexcused absences may be found in Board Policy 3122.
