Monthly Update, September 2023

Reminder there is no school for GJPS students on Monday, September 25, 2023 as our teachers and staff participate in a day of professional development.

We are excited to announce the Heart and Pride staff recognition award! This award is being established to recognize outstanding staff members who make a profound impact on our students and Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools.

This nomination form will remain open year-round and is open to any member of our staff, regardless of position. Please nominate a staff member you feel is deserving by September 29, 2023 to be considered for October recognition, but if you miss the deadline, please still submit nominations as this is a monthly award.

Although we have several construction projects around the District complete, we are still working hard on Middle School East and the new Gahanna Lincoln High School.

We were thrilled to host our stadium opening on September 1, 2023 in front of a packed house. The Lions football team is 2-0 in the new stadium (5-0 overall) and will play tonight in our Homecoming game.

In case you missed it, check out the September 21 Board of Education meeting. During the meeting, you can find:

• Mark Lowrie 2024 Ohio Teacher of the Year Recognition

• Nine GLHS College Board National African American Recognition Award Honorees

• Superintendent Dr. Deagle's thoughts regarding our educational environment

Students at Jefferson Elementary participated in a One School, One Book event. Each student in the school was reading The Terrible Two and the school was buzzing with talk about the book each day. The kick off to the event started with a prank - somebody parked the principal's car on the front steps of the school. The students read to learn more!

Mark Lowrie, Gahanna Lincoln's broadcast journalism teacher, was recognized at an assembly this month as the Ohio Department of Education 2024 Teacher of the Year. He was celebrated in front of state and local dignitaries, as well as nearly 100 of his surprised students.

Congratulations to nine GLHS students for being selected as College Board National Recognition Program awardees. These programs celebrate students' hard work in high school and showcase their strong academic performance. The academic honors for rural area, Black, Indigenous, and/or Latino students are an opportunity for students to share their strong academic achievements with colleges and scholarship programs that are seeking to recruit diverse talent.

The Gahanna-Jefferson Preschool at Clark Hall and Goshen Lane has spots available for 3.5-year-old peer models for the morning classes (8:45-11:30 a.m.).

Some requirements for peer models at the GJPS Preschool are:

• 3.5 years old by August 1, 2023
  
• Potty Trained
• Interacts well and enjoys playing with other children

In November 2020, voters in the Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools district approved a bond and operating levy to fund Phase Two of the GJPS Master Facilities Plan.

Phase Two of the Master Facilities Plan Includes:

• Additions and renovations to High Point and Blacklick Elementary
• Additions and renovations to Middle School East
• New Lincoln High School on current site
