Luce Admin Team Notes
Hello Luce Families,
We had a great week back from our Thanksgiving break! Students seemed to be reenergized and highly engaged in the various learning activities occurring throughout our classrooms this week. It was great to see their smiling faces again.
With the calendar changing to December, we have several upcoming events at the Luce, including our Holiday Spirit Week, Circus, and Holiday Shop. With some potential opportunities to come in and visit, please make sure that your CORI is up to date!
Fall Caregiver Survey

Updated Elementary Handbook Information
The following communication was sent home to families this week regarding our Elementary Handbook:
Dear Families,
There has been discussion among the elementary principals regarding an uptick in the use of electronic devices, which includes smart watches, during the school day. After further consideration and conversations with elementary staff and school councils, and in an effort to align our practices with those at the Galvin, we proposed the following change to the Elementary Handbook, which was accepted and approved by the School Committee.
We understand that students have cell phones for before and after school use. The Canton Elementary schools are Away-For-the-Day schools. This means that:
All cell phones and other electronic devices, including but not limited to cell phones, music players, smart devices (including smartwatches), video-game systems, laser pointers, voice or video recorders, must be off and in backpacks and may not be used during the school day without the principal’s permission.
Students will be reminded to put devices away. If the rule is ignored, devices may be confiscated.
If parents/guardians must contact their children during the school day for an urgent matter, they should do so through the school office.
Students are not allowed to take pictures or videotape students and/or staff. Electronic devices will be confiscated, and parents/guardians will be notified by the end of the school day.
If a smartwatch is needed for a medical reason, such as monitoring heart function or blood sugar an exemption would apply.
We have shared this information with teachers. Thank you for your assistance with talking to your students and making them aware.

Building Safety Reminders
Locked Doors: As school employees we will continue to be vigilant about keeping exterior doors closed and locked at all times.
Buzz In: When we buzz in a visitor, we will say, "Welcome to the Luce. What is your name and how can we help you?" If the office staff has any concerns about the visitor, they will not let them in.
School Grounds: School campuses are closed to the general public during school hours (including playgrounds, fields, basketball courts, walkways near and around our buildings). There are signs on the basketball and playground fences. If a non-school person is on the grounds during the school day they will be asked to leave.
