School Board Recognizes Retiring Staff
Deb Buchweitz
Deb Buchweitz has spent 42 years in education with her last role being an associate at Daniel Wright before retiring in January to become a full time staffer at Wrigley Field.
Mrs. Buchweitz started her career when staff made worksheet copies on mimeograph machines and when computers were introduced they were considered a more sophisticated form of a typewriter.
Even now, several months after she departed, she misses the students and staff she encountered daily in the hallways and classrooms. “If you want to see true success and joy come into a guided classroom after a student has mastered a new skill - the pride and joy from teachers and students cannot be contained!!” Mrs. Buchweitz reflected. She loved working with students to help them become more independent.
Besides working at Wrigley and looking forward to the “Cubs winning the World Series again” Mrs. Buchweitz plans to sleep in and take trips.
Sue Larson
After 41 years as a school-based occupational therapist, including 15 years in District 103, Sue Larson is honored to end her career in Lincolnshire. She was the first OT hired directly by the district and initially worked here part time covering all three schools. She was instrumental in helping to solidify and unify our growing OT/PT department, helping to establish many supports and programs to serve our students with diverse needs.
She shared that she appreciated the support of dedicated colleagues, working with incredibly talented general education teachers and associates, and the willingness of our building principals and administrators to do all they could for our teams. She will remember the many stories of laughter, pain, and sheer grit with colleagues side by side and she will carry these memories and these memories will carry her into the days and years ahead.
In her retirement, Mrs. Larson plans to spend time with family while competitively racing on her dragon boat team both here and in Arizona, continuing to explore other avenues of OT work in both states, as well as taking kayak trips in her new river kayak.

Scholastic Bowl Wins State
This was a fantastic year for Daniel Wright’s Scholastic Bowl team. The 21 team members studied and scrimmaged for two months leading up to the start of the regular season. They learned how to work together and play to each others’ strengths to pull off some impressive wins. They won against some very competitive teams in the region and did the same when they advanced to sectionals. In the state tournament they competed among the top 16 schools in the state out of 380 participating schools. They played three preliminary matches winning all and advanced to the championship against Springfield Franklin which they won in decisive fashion. Please visit the school's Google Doc folder for pictures of the team.
“We are so proud of our team this season. The team exceeded our expectations this year spending countless hours on self studying. They demonstrated camaraderie, maturity, and mastery of subject material," said Jan Lamberti, who coached the team with Allyson Ward.
The starting team included Spencer Manning, Ethan Wang, Eric Zhang, Rishab Konada, and team captain Ani Srinivasan. Our eighth-grade bench included Chelsea Zhao, Vibhav Vosa, Netra Wuppalapati, Joseph Neela, Eeshan Gudapati and Nikhilan Rathinakumar. Other team members are Cady Munkhbayar, Ananya Anand, Ahan Archaya, Brendan Kim, Svasti Srivastava, Arjun Rajkumar, Grace Xing, Rishi Vasireddy and Ethan Lertpatanakul.

Outdoor Ed
Many school districts utilize Outdoor Education experiences to provide a unique opportunity for both cognitive and affective growth. Focusing on the group nature of the trip and utilizing the outdoor setting, many concepts and skill areas were explored by the nearly 200 students who participated in the Daniel Wright sixth-grade outdoor education experience. Please visit the school's Google Doc folder for pictures of the field trip.
Go Green Club
The Go Green Club would like to thank everyone who helped the club raise $315.00 this year. The Club will be donating $157.50 to Ocean Blue Project & $157.50 to National Forest Foundation.
Medication Pick Up
Parents will need to pick up student medication that has been stored in the school nurse's office. Unclaimed medication will be properly disposed of after Thursday, June 15, 2023. If your child is attending summer school, you will need to pick up your child's medication and take it to Daniel Wright or Sprague. The medication should be picked up at the end of summer school or it will will be properly disposed of by Friday, July 7. Please contact your school nurse if you have any questions.
Alumni Day: Throwback Tuesday
Throwback Tuesday Alumni Day! All former Warriors are invited back to hang with their favorite DW eighth-grade teachers on the school's front lawn on Tuesday, May 30, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Because May 30 is the last full day of instruction for students, alumni will not be able to tour the building or visit other staff members. This is a drop in event and alumni must provide their own transportation. Help us spread the word by sharing this notice with DW graduates. Hope to see you soon!
