Community Update
March 31, 2023
Hello North Rockland Families:
With the end of March we welcome in a season of great change for North Rockland.
Next week not only kicks off Spring break for students and families, it starts Phase 1 of our Capital Improvement Plan which includes new facilities, upgrades and renovations. This means while construction is underway NR's track and football field will be CLOSED.
This exciting and groundbreaking project includes the installation of a multi-purpose synthetic turf field at the High School, new hi-tech eight lane track, state of the art concession stand, surrounding lights and an upgraded, fully capable and live streaming able press box as well as new weight rooms. In addition to the new scoreboards installed last year at Cordisco Field, we anticipate new end zone nets, padding for fences and future sidewalk work. Everything will be installed to maximize safety and provide greater efficiency.
The new field project will accommodate our physical education programs, our athletic programs and house many, many of our future events like pep rallies and graduation ceremonies. NRCSD is committed to our community partners and the new field will also be available for our community-based athletic programs, pop warners, events and residential use - becoming a unique shared space for all of North Rockland to enjoy.
Our current facilities and fields have been in operation since the late 50's (when NRHS was built) with the last improvements to the Pressbox taking place in 1996, the Fieldhouse being built in 1970 and the Track being redone in 2009. I am so proud to be Superintendent as we usher in these beautiful upgrades and sport complex utilizing the latest and greatest that’s available for our kids. This project is so meaningful not only to me but to everyone from school leaders to faculty, staff, students and families. Soon the term “Friday Night Lights” will officially take on an incredibly special meaning in our District.
We look forward to welcoming our student-athletes and sports teams to their “new home” via a school community unveiling of the new turf fields, track and training facilities in the familiar location - with a brand new look and feel. But for now please enjoy the Community Update Exclusive images of what’s come down below.
I am so grateful that together, with our Board of Education, we are able to provide our athletes, coaches, students and fans the facilities we truly deserve, all while not raising the tax levy or asking for additional funds through a referendum.
In closing I would like to acknowledge what a difficult week this has been for our great nation. Our hearts and prayers are with the families affected by the senseless and tragic violence in Nashville Tennessee.
Please cherish this week off with your loved ones, hold them a little tighter as you celebrate the holidays before us.
See everyone back on April 11, 2023!

NRCSD Budget Information
The Board of Education and Administration, District and Superintendent have a shared goal to provide our students with an exemplary educational experience, while controlling taxes for our community. We understand the fiscal challenges that living in Rockland County pose which is why they are collaboratively working to ensure the amount of money we ask from our tax payers does not increase for the fourth consecutive year. The latest 2023-24 school budget presentation can be found linked here.
Budget Highlights:
1. The BOE of Education has indicated the 2023-24 budget will NOT include an increase in our tax levy for the fourth consecutive year.
2. Expanded high-level programs and services customized for every learner.
3. Upgrades will be accomplished without asking the taxpayers for any additional funds. The District will utilize funds awarded through grants and secured through state aid.
Specifics on the projects will be forthcoming stay tuned!
Color Causes
NR Rocks Red and Blue!
Did you know that one in every 36 children have autism? Joined by the international community, hundreds of thousands of landmarks, buildings, homes and communities around the world come together on April 2, Autism Awareness Day, to #LightItUp #Blue in recognition of people with autism and those who love and support them. Many people from the Autistic community actually prefer to wear #RedInstead, in an effort to support autism Acceptance. At NRCSD we know that with awareness and acceptance surrounding them, our learners are simply unstoppable - no matter what! After the break on Wednesday, April 12 please wear your favorite shade of #RaiderRed or blue to spread inclusive kindness and advocate for peers. Please tag us in your photos using the heart hand sign to show that - someone with Autism has taught us - Love needs no words!
NR Stands Green and Blue!
April 14 is National Donate Life Day! Please join us by wearing green or blue to school on Friday, April 14 to help spread awareness and education about organ, eye and tissue donation. The important day not only encourages Americans to register as donors, it recognizes those that have saved lives through the gift of donation. This year #NR is standing blue and green in honor of one of our own, Fieldstone Middle School Educator, Nicole Faleri. Nicole has been living with Primary, Collapsing, FSGS (Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis) and is need of a kidney donation. All her info can be found at the link here. Thank you in advance for participating NR Together and standing with us NR Strong!

This school wide competition focuses on students' soft skills by participating in real life scenarios, such as job interviews, public speaking and professional & casual conversations. The competition is broken out into three rounds and rounds one and two are in the books. The finalist will be (cordially) competing in round three tomorrow at Pasta Cucina. Read more.

NR ATHLETICS
Red Raider of the Week!
Connor Wein is our #REDRAIDEROFTHEWEEK! The basketball sharpshooter tallied 19 points in North Rockland's win over Liverpool in the state semifinal round in Glens Falls. Whether he's attacking along the baseline, scoring via the pill up jumper, or bucketing one of his patented corner 3-pointers, Wein has been the source on which North Rockland has leaned. He's stepped into a more prominent role by embracing contact at the rim and developing as more of a downhill scorer. Wein has been a consistent double-digit scorer. The senior was named to the all-tournament team and Section 1 tournament MVP the week prior. Connor plans on continuing his playing career in college and is currently entertaining offers from Mount Saint Mary College, Mount St. Vincent College and SUNY Delhi. Let's make some #REDANDWHITE noise for Connor!
