Trussville City Schools (TCS) Superintendent Dr. Pattie Neill delivered the annual "State of the Schools" address to the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce at its April luncheon, sponsored by the Trussville City Schools Foundation.

From operating schools during a pandemic to academic and athletic successes, Dr. Neill addressed approximately sixty Chamber members at Ferus’ large, outdoor pavilion in downtown Trussville.

The overview provided attendees a view of how Trussville City Schools provided K-12 families multiple learning options as the 2020-2021 School Year began back in August. Read more.

The P.A.C.E. (Positive Attitudes Change Everything) Character Trait of the Month is "PEACE." Peace is "...proving you care more about each other than winning an argument." The TCS Character Education Initiative is a major component of the district's Anti-Bullying Program. Defining the skills of character that are universally accepted as being good is a complex task. As part of our diversity plan, we also wanted to ensure the character education program reflects those skills of character that transcend cultural differences and are widely accepted by our community.

Senior Kirsten Walls has been awarded a SSA (School Superintendents of Alabama) scholarship. Walls plans to attend Jeff State/UAB and major in education. Walls and other SSA Scholarship winners were selected by the Superintendents who were chosen for the SSA/Schneider Electric Superintendent of the Year Award (which includes Dr. Pattie Neill, TCS Superintendent and District V Superintendent of the Year). Hewitt-Trussville High School Lady Huskies Basketball players were recognized April 13 before the Trussville City Council with an official proclamation. Proclamation 2021-05 proclaimed the highlights of an incredible season for the Lady Huskies, which saw a school best record of 29-5. Additionally, the Council highlighted Coach Tonya Hunter's Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) Coach of the Year Award as well as senior guard Amiya Payne's ASWA 1st Team All-State Honors.

Auburn University's 2021 Science Olympiad Competition saw two virtual teams from Cahaba Elementary this month - teams that delved deep in order to expand their knowledge of science. Students showcased their work in the school cafeteria and tests have been sent to Auburn for judging. What all did they learn? From flora/fauna in the Gulf of Mexico to digestive systems, the list was long! Learn more about Cahaba Elementary's Science Olympiad here.

The Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP) Summative is in the rearview mirror for Trussville students. With that, comes celebration! Paine Elementary School Faculty & Staff released two videos ahead of ACAP testing to boost morale and raise awareness. The ACAP Summative is administered statewide each spring, assessing various content areas. TCS educators instruct according to the Alabama Course of Study and integrate their own innovative curricular practices. Throughout the year, they always keep standardized tests in mind, such as the ACAP summative. These exams capture important snapshots of student achievement. Leafing through poetry takes on a whole new meaning at Magnolia. In recognition of National Poetry Month, students participated in a collaborative poetry writing opportunity: a Poetry Tree. First-grade teacher Tiffany Reed's stunning Poetry Tree silhouette and fifth-grade teacher Mary Catherine Galloway's hand-calligraphed leaves set the stage to let students' creativity truly shine. Students in all grade levels and staff members enjoy stopping by the Poetry Tree to read and discuss original poems - and write on the colorful leaves. A love and appreciation of writing and verse is celebrated as the Poetry Tree spreads its vibrant branches across the walls. See more on the Poetry Tree.

HTMS Theatre Department presents Schoolhouse Rock Live Jr.

Shows are Friday, April 23, 7:00; Saturday, April 24, 10:00 and 7:00, and Sunday April 25, 2:00. Limited tickets will be available at the door for $5 each. Masks are required.

Three Hewitt-Trussville Middle School students recently placed in the annual Homewood K-12 Student Art Contest. Ivanna Martinez Carranza (8th grade), Claire Chen (7th grade), and Anna Boutwell (8th grade) were all noted for their exceptional work. For the first time ever, the competition was virtual. Judges selected various entries from dozens of metro Birmingham art students. See the winners and artwork.

Junior Barrett Willingham placed among the state's top students in the 2021 Business Plan Challenge, held this week (virtually). The annual event allows students to showcase real business plans (financials, slides, videos, etc.) before a panel of community business leaders. Willingham's entry, trashCAN, landed him 5th Place overall, earning him a $700.00 scholarship.

The HTHS Varsity Scholars Bowl Team earned an automatic bid into the 2021 ASCA State Championship as well as the 2021 NAQT National Championship and the 2021 National Academic Challenge. The Scholars Bowl team looks forward competing in the upcoming ASCA State Championship Tournament on May 15, 2021. The team, led by Josh Haynes, competed in the 2021 ASCA Virtual District Tournament in early March - a successful showing that earned the team spots in the upcoming tournaments. The team, led by seniors J.P. Campbell and Evan Moore, defeated Vestavia Hills High School and Spain Park High School en route to winning its pool.
