Impressive Impacts
This week at Fletcher, our students and staff really shined brightly. On Wednesday, our Area 3 Superintendent, Dr. Christina Casillas, visited to offer her support and see for herself what all the buzz is about. On the visit she saw classrooms alive with high levels of student engagement, shared reading strategies, and thoughtful use of the Benchmark curriculum. Also on Wednesday, our School Site Council officially approved the Comprehensive School Safety Plan. This is available upon request in the front office and can be found on our school's website. The very next day, our school aced the earthquake safety drill. Read all about it below.
Next week is Red Ribbon Spirit Week! Check out all the info below. Wednesday is our designated dress up day, because Friday is School Picture Day. Typically schools will have the day before Halloween as a dress-up day, but for obvious reasons, we rescheduled that :)

California Shake-Out Success
"Secure Campus" is significantly different from "Lockdown" drills of years past. Fletcher will initiate a "Secure Campus" protocol if law enforcement indicates a dangerous individual in the vicinity of the school. Upon notification, teachers will lock doors/windows and close blinds, and office/custodial/admin will perform a perimeter check to ensure all access points to campus are still completely locked. Business as usual can still take place in classrooms, however, students must remain inside. Once the "Secure Campus" drill is over, we will engage in our monthly fire safety drill with a full evacuation.
These regular practices are part of ensuring a safe and orderly environment. Thank you to our families and staff members for their cooperation a support with teaching our students the importance and seriousness of these practices.
Red Ribbon Spirit Week
As a site we will celebrate with our first spirit week of the year!
Each day students/staff will engage in activities designed to support healthy bodies and minds.
Mindful Monday - Crazy Hair Day
Turn It Around Tuesday - Wear Clothes Backwards Day
"What If" - Wednesday - Dress as your favorite character or who you want to be when you grow up. *This is the day students may dress in their costumes*
Thankful Thursday - Wear positive message or School Spirit
Friday - Dress to Impress Day (Also school picture Day)
Student of the Week - Jaylin!
All of our students at Fletcher are incredible. An overwhelming majority come to school each day ready to learn and do the right thing- not for a reward, not to avoid a consequence, but because it's the right thing to do. This space in the Falcon Flyer is now dedicated to highlighting one of these students each week.
Our first Student of the Week this year is Jaylin in 5th grade. Jaylin demonstrates all ‘the ships’: friendship, ownership, and sportsmanship. He tends to always be there for his friends when they are in need, in and out of the classroom. He is also okay with his mistakes because he knows failure leads to success. Lastly, he seems to always be a problem solver when he is playing any sport to make sure it is fair for everyone involved!
Congratulations Jaylin, and thanks for being a phenomenal Falcon!

Jog-A-Thon November 3rd
On Wed. Nov. 3 we will hold our first Fletcher Jog-A-Thon of the 2021/22 school year! All students will gather on the upper field and warm up for the start of the event. They will run/walk with fun music playing in the background for about 45 minutes. It is always festive and fun to watch all the smiling faces. All laps will be logged with our lap tracker system, which highly motivates the students to run every day at school.
Our Fletcher Running Club comes with some expenses and so we ask for your support to raise funds to run the program throughout the year. Expenses include:
- The lap tracker software subscription
- Recognition awards throughout the year
- End of the Year Running Club awards for all participants and our top runners
- A field trip for our top runners which includes all grades
The lap tracker software allows us to provide frequent feedback to all students on how many miles they have run. There is also a parent portal that you can follow your child’s running progress throughout the year. We will hold more Fun Runs as the year goes on.
To donate, please follow the link below to set up an account on SchoolCash. visit: https://sdusd.schoolcashonline.com/ and set up an account. Then choose the Jog-a-Thon fundraiser and select the amount they'd like to donate.
