THIS WEEK- Week of Sept 18

Belated Happy New Year: For those who celebrated Rosh Hashanah over the weekend, we extend a happy new year.


Vision/Hearing Screening Continues 9/18 and 9/19- All 8th graders and students new to MCPS will be screened for vision and hearing during their social studies class.


Health Education Curriculum Info Session on 9/19 at 6:30- Join Mr. Obstgarten and Mr. Crane for a parent info session about the Family Life and Human Development components of the health curriculum. Hybrid--in person in the media center and on Zoom. TIME CHANGE. Was previously advertised with a 6:40 PM start but will begin at 6:30 PM.


Sixth Grade Mix and Mingle Event on 9/21 at 3:10- Sixth graders are invited to stay for a FREE event on Thursday, Sept 21 from 3:10-4:30. Music, karaoke, crafts, games, sports, etc. Activity buses will be running to get you close enough to walk home. (see below)


Early Release Day on 9/22- On Friday, students will be dismissed from school at 12:30. We will host a series of lessons on safety drills as well as team building. One of the premises of restorative practices is that you are less likely to harm someone you know well.


The order of periods is 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 4, 5 with no STAR.

Health Education Session- Sept 19

On Tu, Sept 19 at 6:30 PM join Mr. Obstgarten and Mr. Crane to learn about the health curriculum with specific focus on the Family Life and Human Development Units in 7th and 8th grade. In person in the media center or on Zoom. School aged children are welcome to join you in the back of the media center with their book, our books or a personal device.

LOOKING AHEAD- WEEK OF SEPT 25

No School on Sept 25- There is no school for students and teachers on Monday, September 25. We wish an easy fast to all who are celebrating Yom Kippur.


Morning Bus Evacuation Drills- Students who rides buses in the AM will experience bus evacuation drills on Tuesday, September 26 upon their arrival to school.

6th Grade Team Building- On Tuesday, Sept 26 all sixth graders will participate in a day of team-building during the school day. (This was previously scheduled for Sept 28 but we had to move it to Sept 26.)


Summer SSL forms Due on Friday- Students who completed service learning over the summer should complete the forms (including the reflection paragraph) and submit them to the main office by Friday, September 29.

WMS OPEN HOUSE ON OCT 2

Most years, MCPS schools open their doors to current parents and caregivers on Indigenous Peoples' Day/Columbus Day but that particular date (Oct 9) is a professional day this year so there are no students to see in action. Therefore, we are opening Westland's doors to current parents and caregivers on October 2 between 8:15 and 2:40. Stay the whole day or come and go as you wish!
