❖ AR - Accelerated Reader (by Renaissance Place) handout
AR can be accessed from Clever - Powered by Clever - Renaissance - Accelerated Reader
AR is a computer program that helps teachers and librarians manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his own level and reads it at his own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.
Students at Stellar have access to AR from any internet device and can do it at home.
A goal is set at the beginning of the year according to their grade level and/or results from the STAR assessment.
As an incentive, when students reach or exceed their goal their name will be added to the display case in the breezeway. Also, students will be given a pass to go to the library and pick out of the “Prize Box” during lunch period.
Please see the AR pamphlet for more information about accessing AR online.
Feel free to contact Janae or Cassie for questions about AR.
Renaissance Place (AR)
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer-based program that students at Stellar Charter School have access to in order to monitor reading practice and progress. Students take short quizzes after reading a book to check for comprehension
How are AR Goals set?
Grades K-1: AR uses a “point goals” system for students in grades K-1 that will be assigned a goal each semester according to their grade and 15 minutes /day.
Grades 2-8: AR goals will be generated by the STAR assessment they take at the beginning of the year and at benchmark periods throughout the year.
Grades 9-12: AR goals will be generated by STAR assessments they take at the beginning of the year and at benchmark periods throughout the year.
How many points do books earn? Students can earn points for every book they read. The number of points is based on a book’s length and difficulty.
How can students earn points? Students earn points when they take a quiz for each book. Passing a quiz requires a score of at least 80%. However, if they score higher than 60 percent on the quiz, they receive a fraction of the total points they could earn from it.
Get recognized for reading! At Stellar, as an incentive this year, students who reach their goal each semester, will receive a special pencil and a climbing figure will be placed on the mountain in the display case with their name on it.
Reader of the Year! The top AR point earners for the whole school year will receive a certificate and a special award at the end of the school year .
