Class of 2024 Mothers' Club Scholarship Opportunity
GROSSE POINTE SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL MOTHERS’ CLUB SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION CLASS OF 2024
What is a Mothers’ Club Scholarship?
Each year the Mothers’ Club designates one-third of its fundraising profits for financial need
and merit scholarships to graduating seniors planning to continue their education at a public or
private college or university or at a vocational school. In 2023, the Mothers’ Club awarded over
$55,000 in scholarship money. Awards will range in amounts up to $2,500.
What is the Application Process?
Students who apply to the Mothers’ Club will be considered for all applicable scholarships. The
application deadline is Friday, March 1, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. Late applications will NOT be
accepted.
1. Complete the online portion of the application using the following Google form link:
https://forms.gle/ASMZgWF98XnLPg4A6
2. Print out and complete the attached application form and submit it with the other
required materials to the Counseling Office in a sealed envelope addressed to Laurie
Martin, Mothers’ Club Vice President, Scholarship.
a. We realize you may have pulled together a lot of this information for your
college application processes. Feel free to submit a copy of relevant sections of
your Common App (e.g., activities, leadership) in lieu of filling out Section 2 of
the Mothers’ Club scholarship application. The format is much less important to
us than the information it contains.
3. Write a cover letter addressed to the Mothers’ Club Scholarship Committee. This is an
opportunity to tell us a little more about you, your accomplishments, and any additional
information that distinguishes you.
4. Include a letter of recommendation from a teacher or employer. Again, please feel free
to use a letter of recommendation written for your college applications or other post-
graduation plans. This letter does not need to be addressed to the Mothers’ Club or
reference your scholarship application.
5. Include a small current photo with your application.
6. Participate in a 15-minute interview with the Mothers’ Club Vice Presidents of
Scholarship and Enrichment. Interviews will take place during school in the
Counseling Office on March 15, 18, and 19, 2024. You will be sent a link to sign up
for an interview time slot during the first week of March.
What are the Scholarship Requirements?
1. Parent/family must be a Mothers’ Club member. Please confirm this with your
parent/guardian before submitting your application.
a. Not yet a member? www.mothersclubgps.com
2. Students must have applied to a public or private college or university or vocational
school for Fall 2024.
3. Applicants must meet the minimum grade point average:
a. Need-based applicants: minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average.
b. Merit applicants: minimum of a 3.3 grade point average.
4. All applicants must demonstrate exceptional leadership, community service, involvement
in extracurricular activities, and/or work experience. All applicants must demonstrate
outstanding achievement or accomplishment in some area.
5. Need-Based Scholarship applicants
a. Part 4 of the Mothers’ Club Application must be completed.
b. Submit a current FAFSA form including the EFC (expected family contribution)
number. Note: Financial need is roughly defined as a FAFSA EFC number that
is lower than the annual cost of attending a public Michigan university. Special
situations can also be taken into consideration.
c. All financial information will be sent directly to an independent third party for
review and kept confidential. Mothers' Club members involved in the
scholarship process do not ever have access to this information. Please place
financial information in a separate sealed envelope address with the
student's name.
When will Scholarships be Awarded?
All applicants will be notified of a decision by email after all the interviews are completed.
Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the Mothers' Club Scholarship Awards Night on
Wednesday, May 1, 2024, in the South Auditorium. Attendance and proper dress are required.
Recipients of some community scholarships may also be required to attend a meeting of that
organization.
Your initiative to undertake the scholarship process is very commendable during this busy time
of the year. Your accomplishments and efforts are appreciated. If you have any questions, please
contact Laurie Martin, VP Scholarship at (617) 894-4168 or scholarship@mothersclubgps.com.
APPLICATION DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, MARCH 1, 2024 AT 3:30 PM.

Class of 2024 CAP and Gown ORDERING
Please use the following Jostens link to order any Graduation merchandise, including cap/gown and extra tassels.
This is the beginning of a busy school year for our Seniors, please let me know if you have any questions. I'm available in the Student Activities office, room 131 or (313) 432-3518. I will do all that I can to help you!
https://www.jostens.com/apps/store/customer/1064224/Grosse-Pointe-South-High-School/
A few common Q/As:
- Yes, this is the same navy cap/gown that we've been using for years, so you're welcome to try on your sibling's, neighbors, friend's, or even your parents! I highly recommend a fresh wash in cold water & hang dry or send to the dry cleaners and order a new tassel!
- Jostens is a partner vendor and we have a great relationship with them, so if there's something you need, please ask. We do not make any money from your Jostens purchases, so don't feel inclined to over order. We do not have access to your on-line orders or tracking information, we only have access to merchandise that actually arrives at school.
- Naturally, the website will provide you with the most expensive packages first. Keep scrolling down to the bottom of the page for the most basic Cap/Gown/Tassel package for $58.
- Keep in mind, pricing will increase closer to graduation date.
- Most merchandise gets bulk-shipped to GP South later in the school year. Students will be informed as to when to pick up merchandise. Cap/Gown distribution is tentatively scheduled for the final week of school. (more info to come closer to date)
- Student Activities, room 131 does have some unused or gently used cap/gowns on hand, so if you are in financial need, you can take one of ours.
