The Beat Goes On
We are marching right along with end of the year assessments. This week, our 3rd-5th graders rocked the Math CAASPP tests, and our TK-2nd graders put their reading skill growth on full display during Fountas and Pinnell testing. Our 3rd-5th graders also took a district-wide reading assessment called the FAST. Why so much testing? Measuring growth and skill is not an exact science. No single test will truly show what a student does or does not know. Therefore, we assess our students in several different ways to get a more well-rounded look at where our students excel, and where they need support. This allows teachers to tailor their approach to meet the specific learning needs of each student.
Next week, our top runners in each grade will be celebrated with a field trip to Torrey Pines Natural State Reserve. At the park, they'll get to experience a docent guided tour of one of the most unique habitats in all of California. The Torrey Pine is one of the rarest pine trees in the world. It grows only in San Diego and on two islands off the coast of Santa Barbara. Did you also know that our Principal, Mr. Friedenberg, volunteers as a docent at TPSNR? He'll be leading one of the tour groups on Tuesday.
The next two weeks are also short weeks because of the extended Memorial Day holiday. There is no school on Friday next week, or Monday the following week. Make-up testing will still continue, so please ensure your students are rested and here on time each day. Send us your best, we'll do the rest!

failure is not fatal:
it is the courage to continue that counts."

Student of the Week - Matthew!
This week's Student of the Week is Matthew in Ms. Yamashita's class! Matthew excels in everything he does. He is an excellent reader and a prolific writer. When asked about his favorite subjects in school, he responds, “I love everything about school. It's hard to decide.”
In class, Matthew demonstrates leadership. He elevates everyone’s thinking by encouraging others to observe their world with a sense of wonder. In STEAM, students are learning about how their actions affect the world around them. “Think outside the box, what else can we do?” Matthew would often ask.
Matthew has taken the lead in creating an “eco-friendly” environmental blueprint of the Amazon Rainforest. “We need to work together to save the rainforest.”
“No one is too small to make a difference,” a quote Matthew discovered while working on his STEAM project on “Human Impact.”
Congratulations, Matthew! Thank you for being a phenomenal falcon!
