Moore Street School uses a blended learning model. This model includes a combination of computer based instruction (CBI) and teacher lead direct instruction. Some classes even get hands on experiments. Please see the photos below from our middle school class as they do an experiment about heat transfer with popcorn.
We also kicked off our in house mentor program called "Mentoring Mondays". The students and staff really enjoyed the skittle "get to know you activity". The purpose of the mentoring program is to ensure every student has a trusted adult in the building to confide in. This support our whole child approach and builds capacity in the area of social emotional well being.
Parents, as a reminder, if your phone number changes please notify the school with the updated information. We recently had an emergency with a power outage. We learned that several numbers were not good contact numbers. I applaud the MSS staff for using all resources to ensure every parent was contacted.
As we continue to monitor attendance as a school and district initiative please be aware of our attendance recovery opportunity. Students may use evening school hours to make up attendance. Six evening school hours can replace one absent day.
We have seen a rise in dress code violations as the weather is poised to transition to Fall. Please be reminded of our hoodie policy. Students are NOT allowed to wear hoodies on their heads inside of the school building. If a student receives three hoodie infractions he/she will no longer be allowed to wear articles of clothing with hoods attached. Please encourage your child to avoid infractions by being in compliance with the established dress code.
Weekly COVID-19 testing has begun. If you would like for your child to receive weekly onsite testing please request a form, complete, sign, and return it. Testing is just one of the many mitigation strategies we are using. Students are encouraged to wear a mask while in the building, to wash or sanitize their hands frequently, and to watch their social distancing.
We have modified our check-in process slightly. Students and visitors will be required to clear the medal detector prior to entering the building. Please be patient as we improve our building security.
Our school hours are from 7:30 a.m.-2:10 p.m. Our evening school hours are 2:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. Monday -Thursday. Please review the dress code with your son/daughter. As a reminder feel free to contact the school at (478) 353-8400 with any questions or concerns.
