Dear D91 Parents,
The start of the school year is behind us and our teachers and students have settled into a happy routine filled with learning and growth. Our grade-level teams have had a chance to assess each student, review the results, and plan academic support services where necessary. The district continues to utilize IXL in reading and math to help push students forward and/or address any skill gaps. Just as important, social-emotional learning is also an integral part of our daily practice. Establishing a sense of community among our learners is imperative as we build a culture of success and support.
Looking ahead, the district will offer parent-teacher conferences on Monday, November 20 & Tuesday, November 21. Please stay tuned for more information!
Thank you,
Mr. John Jennings, KG Principal

Occasionally your child may become ill at school. It is important that the school have your correct home telephone number and work number, as well as an emergency number of a relative, friend, or neighbor that may be contacted in the event a parent cannot be reached. It is encouraged to have more than one emergency contact, should that person not be available. Please contact Mrs. Dragosh with any updates.
We will keep you informed if your child makes frequent visits to the health office. Sometimes children complain of illness but that may not be the root cause. We welcome calls to inform us of any home or medical issue your child may be experiencing. Part of reaching our goal to keep your child in class to optimize his/her learning involves consistency of health practices at school and at home.
Visit the Health and Wellness section of the District 91 website to find appropriate forms and more information about physicals, immunizations, dental and eye exams.

Counseling/Social Work News
The month of September was National Suicide Prevention Month. While suicide is often a topic many try to avoid because of stigma, being frightened, or simply because it can be uncomfortable, it is an extremely important topic to help avoid devastating outcomes. In order to help, we can become familiar with warning signs, learning how to help, and resources that are available.
Things to Know
Some warning signs may help you determine if a loved one is at risk for suicide, especially if the behavior is new, has increased, or seems related to a painful event, loss, or change. If you or someone you know exhibits any of these, seek help. Warning signs can include: isolation, giving things away, irritability or aggressive behavior, drastic change in behavior, substance abuse, dramatic mood swings, impulsive or reckless behavior, loss of interest in hobbies or activities they previously enjoyed.
How to Help
Watch and listen to your child for sudden changes in behavior.
Talk openly and honestly. Have an open discussion using open-ended observations such as, “I have noticed that things seem to be hard for you lately, can you tell me more about that?” or ask the hard questions such as “Are you having thoughts of suicide?” or “Do you have a plan for how you would complete suicide?”
Be patient, it takes strength and courage to share hard thoughts.
Express support and concern.
Call 911 if they are actively in crisis or call the hotline - 988
Resources
If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988 immediately.
If you are uncomfortable talking on the phone, you can chat the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988lifeline.org.
You can also text NAMI to 741-741 to be connected to a free, trained crisis counselor on the Crisis Text Line.
