What's Happening??!!

Dear Hawley Parents/Guardians, Teachers, and Staff,

Cruisin' thru January. We had our Terrific Whole-School Gathering and Kindness Assembly, gave midyear assessments, and held a Concert.

Buckle up, stay seated, and keep your hands and feet in the car at all times, as you read on to find out What's Happening at Hawley .....

We had our Kindness Assembly!! AND, we were all together ( we pulled it off ;0)

Kindness Month centered around the book, The Big Umbrella, which was all about inclusion and making room for everyone. Each grade level shared some ways they include others and led us in a kindness song...

As I shared, every grade leads us in a song. The tradition of the Kindness Assembly is to end with everyone singing Nothing More by Alternate Routes.

This Year we were JOINED by Alternate Routes!!!!

Our Special Hawley Gathering included time with Buddy Classes. These are classes from Hawley Sandy Hook and Hawley Reed that write each other throughout the year & get together on these special days. They were together for Lunch, a Movie and Hot Cocoa.

We have not had a Chorus Concert in 3 Years. What a joy for our 4th Graders to be able to perform for their Families. They did an Amazing Job!! Thank you Mrs. Marak for your guidance and the 4th Grade Teachers for their support.

A reminder that electronics are not allowed in school. We can not be responsible if they are lost, damaged or stolen, and they create a disruption to the day.

The new issue is Apple Watches. Students are downloading videos, texting and/or taking pictures of others. These are all against Board of Education Policy. Students at our level also do not really understand the ramifications of this behavior.

Please keep these devices at home. If found, we will have to take them for you to come pick up at your convenience. Thank you for your understanding.

• Save the Date: The Superintendent will be joining our next PTA Meeting to review his budget for next school year and to answer questions. It will be on Thursday, 2/9, 4:30 in the Reed Library.
• Registration is open for Kindergarten next year.
• Since we are in 2 buildings that students are unfamiliar, and with the end of the day being very busy, we ask that no students be picked up between 3:00-3:25 PM.
• If you are wondering..... ASK!

• Thurs, 2/9: PTA Meeting, 4:30, Reed Library
• Fri, 2/17: 3-Hr Early Release Day
• Mon-Tues, 2/20-2/21: No School, Presidents Day/Winter Recess

The PTA is planning for some Fun Family Events in February & March. As dates become finalized, they will be shared.

Mr. M was delivering Birthday Cards & Pencils. We begin 1/2 Birthdays this time of year for students born in the Summer (so they too get a card & pencil)

" And here is the 1st Half Birthday of the year " Mr. M announced

" Here is your card and... " Mr. M paused

" Since it is a 1/2 birthday, you only get 1/2 of a pencil " joked Mr. M

The student asked, " Can I have the part with the eraser,

I make a lot of spelling errors. "
