All Souls Day Reflection
It´s very hard when we lose someone dear to us. Even harder is when this person is young and leaves this earthly life too prematurely for human eyes. The loss of a child for a father, or the lost of a father to a young child raises some questioning: why me? But why we don´t ask: why not me?
Many times we question God´s will for our lives. We think, analyze the options and the hypotheses, but whatever we think and ponder, the solution is simple: the will of the Father is that we surrender in Faith and in the belief of his Son Jesus, with the clear goal to obtain salvation. Nothing more. Besides, everything is the consequence of this surrender, of this belief. When we surrender ourselves faithfully to this truth, we notice that life moves toward a path of sanctity and plenitude.
God provides what is necessary to us; our path is guided by Him, and this gives us the security that we are on the right way. All the rest becomes secondary when we focus on our salvation and on eternal life. So, there are no reasons for anguish, no need of thoughts about what God is keeping for us.
Jesus wants us, he doesn’t want to lose us. We belong to this people that will resurrect in the last day. How much joy we have for, as Jesus followers, we´ll be taken to eternal life! This life on Earth is not the end of the journey, but a door that opens to the definitive freedom beside the Resurrected Christ!
From The Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Absences from School - Personal Absence
It has been brought to my attention that there have been a number of students absent for personal reasons from school without completing the Personal Absence form. This form needs to be completed out by the parent and submitted to the teacher for Principal signature. The form indicates that the school is under no obligation to provide tutoring, make-up work, or special testing schedules for such an absence. Please be aware that your child's quarter results may be lower than usual. Please refer to the form. It is located in the parent handbook and is also located on SchoolSpeak.
Solar Completion:
We are proud at announce that the solar project is now complete, and we are awaiting final approval before we switch over to the new system.
Parent Conferences:
Sign ups for parent conferences are finished now. Teachers will not be chasing anyone who did not sign up. We expect that parents should be responsible enough to meet the school deadlines. We expect our students to be Responsible Citizens, and we extend this expectation to our parent body.
Entrance for the conferences will be through the front entrance door as well as the schoolyard door near the cafeteria (Kindergarten end).
Principal's Awards Ceremony
On November 14th we will have our Principal's Awards Ceremony at 9am in the Church. We have a guest speaker from Riordan High School.
Food Drive - Thanksgiving
Our food drive for St. Vincent De Paul begins next week. Let's all make a big effort to help the needy in our community.
Candy Sale
Please be aware that all candy sale monies are due. Please check to see whether you have paid your money.
God Bless,

SLE RECOGNITION
Ms. J's Journal
“It’s ten o’clock. Do you know where your children are?” That line was from a ‘60s television commercial promoting parenting awareness. These days the more appropriate question might be, “Do you know what website your child is on?” or “Do you know what your child is texting?”
There has been a lot of talk in the news lately about the appropriate amount of “screen time” for children of different ages. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) revised their guidelines regarding media use by children of all ages. Guidelines are set for broadcast and social media use. Television viewing continues to be the most common media exposure experienced by schoolchildren, with the average child aged 8 years or older watching over two hours of TV a day. According to the AAP, 75% of teenagers own a smartphone and slightly more than that use at least one social media site. Most maintain social portfolios on multiple sites.
Media is part of our lives in this century, and there are many benefits to the variety of information and viewpoints to be found on different platforms. There are obvious concerns as well. The AAP recommends consistent limits on the amount of media students should view and urge that screen time doesn’t replace exercise, healthy habits, and a good night’s sleep.
It so important that parents monitor their children’s media exposure and set the limits that make sense for their personal family situations. Things to consider might include family media-use contracts and media-free times or locations (such as no media use at the dinner table or in a child’s bedroom).
Much of the information above came from AAP COUNCIL ON COMMUNICATIONS AND MEDIA. Media Use in School-Aged Children and Adolescents. Pedi-atrics. 2016;138(5):e20162592 (in PEDIATRICS Volume 138, number 5, November 2016). The AAP also offers a tool to enable parents/families to create a media-use plan appropriate to their children’s ages at www.healthychildren.org/MediaUsePlan. Another valuable resource for parents is the Common Sense Media website which researches, reviews, recommends media choices appropriate for all ages.
I hope you find this information of use.
All the best,
Ms. J

Thanksgiving Food Drive
As the holiday season approaches our hearts turn to thoughts of sharing time, meals, and gifts with our family and friends. In that spirit of sharing All Souls Student Council is conducting its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Donations will be distributed to local families in need of assistance during this holiday season.
What is needed most are large-sized canned goods like vegetables, canned meats, tuna, and chili, as well as dry items including pastas, beans, and rice. Costco and/or family size packages would be great but ALL donations will be greatly appreciated.
Our food collection will start Monday, November 7th and continue until Friday, November 18th. A collection table will be set up at the main stairwell landing near the school office. Feel free to drop of your donations on your way to your parent-teacher conference. Students may also bring donations directly to their classrooms.
Together we can make a difference and help our neighbors in need. Thank you.
