Colton Hills School Bulletin
5 July 2023
Introduction by Mr Williams, Deputy Headteacher, Pastoral
Welcome to our latest edition of our school bulletin. It has been an incredibly busy couple of weeks at Colton Hills and we have been delighted to welcome our new Year 7 students this week for their transition days.
Furthermore, planning is ongoing for our inaugural Summer Fete which promises to be a brilliant event, open to all families and the wider community – we hope to see as many of you there as possible. As we approach the final couple of weeks, we would like to offer our thanks for the support shown by families throughout this academic year, and for the way our students continue to conduct themselves on a daily basis.
As with schools up and down the country, we have our challenges, but we must always reflect on the amazing children we have in this school and be proud of how they represent Colton Hills Community School on a daily basis. Students here demonstrate our PRIDE values consistently and make this a safe, inclusive and exciting place to work and study.
We are also looking forward to the return of our Celebration Evening in July and our annual Sports Day on 14th July. On a final note, if you haven't bought your tickets to our school production, The Wiz Musical, tickets are still available via the school website. The evening shows will run from 11th-13th July in the school theatre. Summer Fete tickets are also free to book via the school website or through the link in this bulletin. We hope to see you at Colton Hills soon.

Basketball League Results
On 3 July, our Year 7/8 & 9/10 basketball teams played their final games of the season against
Heath Park School. Both teams had finished top in their leagues, so whoever won the final games would be champions of Wolverhampton. Our Year 7/8's unfortunately missed out finishing 4-14, but nevertheless, an outstanding effort to have come this far.
On another note, our Year 9/10s are officially Wolverhampton City Champions with the game finishing 33-2. It has been an incredible season for our girls and the PE department couldn't be prouder. Congratulations to the all the players and to Miss Tolliday, we are very thrilled with their accomplishments.
Year 7 School Trips to Gelliwig
The students (and staff) all had a wonderful time on the trip and they all came back tired but happy! We are glad to provide this opportunity to our students every year with the support of The Birch Thompson Memorial Fund Charity, which runs Gelliwig. Gelliwig also caters for other community groups including refugees & asylum seekers and it depends on public donations to help fund the maintenance and upkeep of the residental. For more information on the charity, please visit www.gelliwig.org.uk.
Year 6 Induction Days
Refugee Week Poetry Reading at Wolverhampton Mayor's Chambers
On Friday, 23rd June, we were invited to a special event at the Wolverhampton Mayor's Chambers to celebrate Refugee Week 2023. Students from across KS3 were given the opportunity to perform some spoken poetry that they had created over the last few weeks with help from Ms Crump, Ms Dogra & Mr Reade.
Our students recited their pieces excellently and were a real credit to the school. Their poems covered a wide range of issues affecting refugees both past and present. We are tremendously proud of them for recognising the need to show compassion, which coincidentally is this year's theme. Well done to everyone who took part.
CCF (Army) Central Camp Trip
Last weekend, our cadets went out to CCF (Army) Central Camp and held their own against more established CCF from independent schools. They set up patrol harbour, an operating base and ambushes before settling for the night in their bashers, which they had to erect themselves.
On Saturday, they patrolled and conducted a full platoon attack using blank rounds so it felt realistic. Sunday was spent at the range for live firing and also laser shotgun, and infantry demonstration among other activities. Our group was also delighted to have beaten neighbouring school, The Royal Wolverhampton, in the Gun Run, which was a real boost for the group. We would like to thank members of staff especially Mr and Mrs Ireland, Miss Heeley, Miss Bhasin, Mr McKerdy and Mr Youngman for making this trip possible.
