PaTTAN Family Information Webpage
Supporting a child with a disability through the education process takes a team approach. As a parent, you are an essential partner in your child’s education. You have many partners, including your Local Education Agency (LEA), providing support, resources, trainings, and videos to assist you in learning about specific disabilities and educational initiatives. This webpage may help you support your child.
PaTTAN Family Resources for Students with Complex Learning Needs
Families and professionals supporting children with disabilities face additional challenges. You are not in this alone. The PA Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN), in collaboration with the Bureau of Special Education, has created this website for families and general educators supporting complex learners in virtual learning. For the purpose of this website, a complex learner is a child, youth, or young adult with an intellectual or significant cognitive disability, multiple disabilities, and/or sensory impairment.

Overview of the Course
Deaf and Hard of Hearing 101
According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders and the CDC, about 2 to 3 out of every 1,000 children in the United States are born with a detectable level of hearing loss in one or both ears. Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor & Industry, and Office for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing, estimate that 8.6% of Pennsylvanian’s are deaf or hard of hearing. In this video, Pattan’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing consultants will define deaf and hard of hearing terminology and identify types of hearing loss. They’ll review strategies to support d/hh students and will explore the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC). They’ll end the presentation by sharing what you can do to learn more and where to find additional resources on supporting d/hh students. (One Hour)
