Principal's Message
Wildcat Students and Parents,
We are hopeful that this edition of the Wildcat Growl finds you and your family safe and healthy.
I was again fortunate enough to get to spend some time with our District Student Advisory Team (which includes students from both DHS and MVHS) and our Senior leaders (Members of Student Council and Senior Class Officers). During the discussions, we asked how the continuous learning plan was going. The students described both the challenges of online learning and variety of ways in which they are overcoming those challenges by managing their time and school work.
The flexibility that asynchronous learning provides is essential for many of our students and families. But, the reality of remote learning requires students to plan their own days/weeks in ways traditional face to face schooling structures for them. With less than a month left in the school year, it is becoming more and more important that students organize themselves and plan for success.
Parents can help. Each teacher has office hours, assignments, and due dates. Helping your student create a schedule that includes a daily ‘check-in’ with one of their teachers during office hours may help with communication and understanding of content. Another method may involve organizing their schedule so that they complete the weekly requirements of one or two courses each day. The key isn’t which method, but more in having a method that works for your family and student.
AP Tests are looming on the horizon for many of our students. The College Board is allowing students to take these open book/open note exams online from home this year. Please review the email sent by Mrs. Johns on April 15th.
I would like to thank Crystal Sinclair-King, Bruce Yarbrough, Jennifer Sosna, Lori Cater, and Anne Cahoone for assisting us in passing out senior yard signs and graduation materials last week. Thank you!
We are currently working with building and district administrators on a plan for students to return textbooks and retrieve any personal belongings left at school. As soon as we have our plan finalized, we will let you know. Thank you for your patience.
Kind Regards,
Sam Ruff
