Student Asynchronous School Day- 2/18/2022
Dear SMS / SHS Parents:
As you know, our next Asynchronous Day is on Friday, February 18th. Over the past month, a committee of parents and staff has been working hard to develop engaging options for students on this day that supports learning, but maybe in a different path than our traditional school days, while taking into consideration the busy schedule of our parents and students on these days.
Student ‘Explore Boards’
To engage students in exciting learning and exploration activities on this day, we have created ‘Explore Boards’ - for SMS / Grs. 6-8. You can click on the links below to access these boards. We have created plenty of options for exploration that can be done with or without technology, at home, or anywhere your child may be on this day. Teachers will also have these Explore Boards posted in their Google Classroom. Although we are sharing these boards now, there is no expectation that students work on them prior to Friday (2/18).
- Click here to access the Explore Board for SMS / Grs. 6-8
Explore Boards’ Directions
- Students should engage in as many of the Explore Board activities and experiences as they can based on what sparks their interest.
- Next to the title of each cell is a reflection link that is unique to that activity. There is also a link to all of the reflection forms in the center cell. If a student completes an activity, s/he will click on the reflection link for that cell and complete the brief reflection no later than Tuesday, February 22nd by 7AM.
- For every Explore Board activity / reflection completed, students will be entered into a grade-level raffle for the chance to win some exciting prizes. The more activities students complete, the more entries they will have in the raffle.
- If parents / students would like to share a picture / post of the work being done on the Explore Board activities on social media, use the #SCSExplores hashtag.
Teacher-Assigned Work
Some teachers may require your child to complete certain cells on the Explore Boards, such as the ‘Classwork Catch Up’ or ‘Organize’ option or engage in an activity to extend their learning from previously learned topics. If work is assigned outside of the Explore Boards, it will be limited and there will be no requirement to log on at a specific time to meet as a class on Friday.
I hope you and your children have a fun asynchronous day exploring all of these great learning opportunities!

School Climate Survey
We want to hear about your experience with your student's education. We invite you to participate in completing the School Climate Survey. This survey includes questions about your student's learning, school safety, and interpersonal relationships, as well as your attitudes about the instructional environment and your personal involvement in school. Your responses will be very helpful in improving student relationships, learning conditions, and the overall school environment.
Beginning today, February 6, we invite all parents, guardians and caretakers to complete this survey for our school. The survey is completely anonymous and brief; it contains 21 questions and takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. You can take the survey online by using the following unique school link: https://www.pbisassessment.org/Anon/o7q201Fs3m0. (If you cannot access this online survey, please pick up a paper copy in our school office, complete it, and leave it in the box designated for the survey.) Please submit your responses by February 18th.
As you respond to each item, think about your own personal experiences as a parent, caregiver or guardian at Strongsville Middle School. Please answer all of the questions, or your answers won't be recorded, but you can mark "I prefer not to answer: if you don't want to answer a question about you.
We hope you will take the time to provide us with this valuable information. Feel free to call our office at 440-572-7090 if you have any questions. Each school's total survey results will be used to inform and develop appropriate strategies, procedures, and/or programs to enhance our school climate.
The link to the survey again is https://www.pbisassessment.org/Anon/o7q201Fs3m0.
Thank you for your time and participation!
