GOOD NEWS ABOUT CB WEST STUDENTS
CB West Track Achievements
CB West Boys Track Team
During halftime of the February 20th East-West boys basketball game, the school raised last spring's 4x800 State Championship relay banner into the rafters. Brian Baker, Luke Fehrman, Alec Hofer, and Jake Claricurzio won the District 1 Championship, State Championship, and ran the fastest time of the 22,000 high schools in the United States during the season.
Congratulations to Brian Baker for winning the mile and the boys 4x200, 4x400, and 4x800 relays for earning medals at the Greater Philadelphia Area Meet of Champions. This Meet comprises all of District 1 and 12 and also pulls in some District 3 schools, some of the best districts in Pennsylvania.
State Championship - Boys
We are really proud to be the only team in Pennsylvania to qualify for all four relays to the State Championship. All 13 boys who competed represented CB West with excellence.
Four seniors (Ryan Gunsiorowski, Zane Williams, Ian Infante, and Jafar Bucknal) earned the right to run on the 4x200m relay and nearly set a season best, averaging 23.7 each, placing 19th.
The 4x400m relay (Nick Ferrentino, Roman Katona, Luke Fehrman, Jake Claricurzio) that was seeded 2nd in the state had the misfortune of getting tripped and falling to the track, but still managed to place 16th.
The distance medley relay (Ben Bunch, Paul Nicholas, Carter Laatsch, Brian Baker) placed 3rd and ran the 17th fastest time in the United States this season.
The 4x800 (Jake Claricurzio, Luke Fehrman, Owen Shields, Brian Baker) won the State Championship by five seconds and ran the 5th fastest time in the United States this season. This marks the 3rd year in a row that the CB West boys have posted a top five mark in the United States in the 4x800m relay.
State Championship - Girls
This weekend the CBW girls track team had two relays compete at the State Championship Meet. The 4x4 of Vanessa Barrow, Emmi Simon, Katy Jenkins and Darby Roth ran the fastest time of their season and narrowly missed getting on the medal stand by just a mere second and finished 10th overall in the State. The 4x8 relay of Piper Wilson, Emmi Simon, Vanessa Barrow & Darby Roth took home 6th place medals while again running the fastest time of their season.
MBIT National Technical Honor Society Inductees

CB West Music Achievements
On Friday, February 16, CB West Jazz Ensembles 1 and 2 both received a rating of Outstanding at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. Matthew Oriente, Joshua Afanador, and Will Fredendall were all recognized as “Best Soloists” for their performances.
On Saturday, February 17, the CBW Indoor Percussion Ensemble earned a First Place finish in their division at the Cheltenham Indoor Festival. The CB Indoor Color Guard earned a Second Place finish in their division.
Chamber Choir
The CB West Chamber Choir recently visited New York and went to the Aaron Copland House where they met Michael Boriskin, Director of Copland House to learn about great American composer Aaron Copland. The choir sang music of Leonard Bernstein, one of Copland's great friends, as well as music of several West composers. The choir also visited NOLA Studios where they met with Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo to sing his music as he improvised piano accompaniments with them.
Congratulations to CB West Vocalists
Congratulations to Sophie Griffiths, Eva Martinez, Taylor Mitchell and Mollie Schumaker who were semi-finalists in the Bucks County Choral Society’s Inaugural Voices of the Future Program. CB West placed four out of the seventeen semifinalists from ten schools that competed. Way to go!
CB West Girl STEM Club and Doyle Students Team Up for Winter Enrichment Fun!
During the month of February, the CB West Girl STEM club has teamed up with Doyle elementary students to provide the young students with fun and engaging science enrichment experiences during Doyle’s Winter Enrichment classes. Teams of CB West Girl STEM club members have gathered each Tuesday in February after school to provide science demonstrations and hands-on learning experiences for the Doyle students. It has been an excellent opportunity for CB West students to gain leadership skills and for the Doyle students to learn about science using everyday materials. The students have learned about density and chemical reactions through making a ‘lava lamp.’ They have learned about viscosity and states of matter by making slime. All students enjoyed the hands-on learning and fun take home experiments!
