Principal's Point
Hi North families, and happy March!
I hope you are as excited as I am about the spring weather on the way. Fresh air and outside exercise are two ways to run those winter blues away. I have also reminded students that another way to keep sharp is to get a good night's sleep. In recent years there has also been a concern with devices and how they affect the sleep of the young minds of our students.
As a parent and educator, I am concerned about how vulnerable our children are when it comes to the internet and social media. Many of our children are becoming very knowledgeable about ALL the new social media programs available, some of which are not safe or appropriate. I have heard about some very concerning sites and Apps. Common Sense Media is a great resource for you to stay knowledgeable. All children need guidance on being cyber safe. We teach it at school and I would encourage parents to talk about cyber safety at home and periodically browse histories on phones, apps, computers, and tablets.
I would like to thank the North PTO officers, for all their support. It has been tricky trying to think of opportunities to support staff and students and the officers have been creative and flexible. They are always willing to do whatever it takes to get things going. Thank you for your dedication to our students and North.
This month is the start of the state assessment season. This week 3rd graders started with IREAD3; our students were focused and worked hard to do their very best. I am very proud of their hard work and doing their very best!
The window for ILEARN for grades 3-5 is April 18 - May 13. I ask that you schedule appointments around the testing dates if possible. Students seem to do better when they take them with their class.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mr. Lugo

Thank you to everyone who donated to our food drive to benefit Fueled for School. Our school collected 1,979 cans of ravioli. A special shout out to Hudson McCormick for collecting 1,100 cans. Since we reached our school goal, Mr. Lugo and Ms. Gingerich will have a bike race around the school before spring break. Many thanks to everyone who contributed!
Notes from the Nurse
March is National Nutrition Month! Good nutrition is vital to our health and important to being successful in school! Make sure your student is getting a healthy breakfast, ask them about what they actually ate for lunch, and enjoy eating dinner together as a family. It’s a great way to catch up on each other’s day!
