Rachel Marshall Schoenfelder
2022 School Board candidate
Background
I was born and raised in Red Wing, having attended Red Wing schools as a student. I am married and have four children who have been or are currently enrolled in the Red Wing School District. I am employed as a physician assistant at the Red Wing Mayo Clinic Health System in the pediatric department. I have been and continue to be actively involved in many organizations and leadership positions as both a student and an adult in the Red Wing community, including serving on the Red Wing Library Board, the Red Wing Youth Volleyball Association Board, the Parent Advisory Committee in the Red Wing School District, Parish Council, the Long-Range Facility Planning Committee for the Red Wing School District, the YMCA Sunshine Corner Preschool Board, and the Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPs) Board. In 1993, I served as a Miss Red Wing Royal Ambassador. I have also volunteered as a faith formation teacher, a vacation Bible school teacher, a school classroom assistant, a lunch attendant, and a Cub Scout den Leader.
Education
I completed K-12 in the Red Wing School District, then attended St. Mary’s University, Winona State University, the University of Minnesota, and Augsburg College to further my education.
Why do you want to serve on the Red Wing School Board?
As a Red Wing High School graduate with children in the district, I have a personal interest to give back to the community by continuing efforts to improve the quality of the school system, the fiscal health of the district, and allocation of taxpayer money. This position would allow me to represent our community and work to create a shared vision of academic achievement and excellence for every child in our district. I believe I can contribute valuable input to the board and serve the community as a Red Wing graduate, a parent, and a pediatric health care professional familiar with the real struggles our students currently face.
How did your K-12 education influence your life?
I completed the entirety of my K-12 education in Red Wing. The Red Wing schools helped shape a vision for my future and provided me the academic and practical skills to successfully navigate life after education, be an effective leader, and advocate for myself and others. Current and future Red Wing students deserve these same opportunities to prepare them for their careers and civic life.
