All Aboard! A New School Year Has Begun!
We are excited to be kicking off this school year and thankful your family is a part of our program. Our amazing team of parent educators is eager to support your family.
Throughout the year, we hope to connect you to a number of neighbors in your community. Mr. Rogers said, "All of us, at some time or other, need help. Whether we're giving or receiving help, each one of us has something valuable to bring to this world. That's one of the things that connect us as neighbors—in our own way, each one of us is a giver and a receiver." This month we begin making these connections by hosting our first two Group Connections.
September offers many wonderful opportunities for outdoor exploration as the seasons begin to shift.
Parents as Teachers is so happy to help support you and connect your family to resources supporting your family along the way!
Here's to a great school year!

Family Activity: Make a Train Car
Boxes are versatile, offering tons of fun for little ones of all ages. Using one large cardboard box, allow your child to paint, color, or put stickers on it, decorating it to be all their own. Next, cut the top and bottom off. Attach shoulder straps made from heavy ribbon or yarn. Add small painted paper plates for the wheels, counting them as they are taped or glued to the train car.
For fun the whole family can enjoy, create additional train cars. Then, move around, and sing a few of the fun train songs listed below.
Be sure to include baby by making a box train car for them, singing songs, making eye contacting, and supporting their level of interest. You could also line up large blocks to make a train, and encourage baby to participate in tummy time.
Train Songs
I'm a Train
I’m a train, I’m a train,
I’m a choo-choo train.
I ride in the sun.
I ride in the rain.
My wheels go slow.
It depends, it depends,
On where I go.
Chugga chugga, chugga (continue going faster)
Choo! Choo!
Here Comes The Choo Choo Train
Here comes our choo choo train
Coming down the track
First it’s going forward
Then it’s going back
Hear the bells ringing, ding a ling, ding a ling
Hear the whistle blowing, woo woo
What a lot of noise it makes
Everywhere it goes!
Little Red Caboose
Little red caboose, chug, chug, chug
Little red caboose, chug, chug, chug
Little red caboose behind the train, train, train, train
Smokestack on his back, back, back, back
Chugging down the track, track, track, track
Little red caboose behind the train.
