Reading- Henline:
Last week the scholars received their new novel, Refugee! With this story, there are three different historical characters throughout three different time periods fleeing civil unrest. This is a great novel to help show and express empathy to children that live in various circumstances. The students will also have a novel guide and quiz check every Monday and Wednesday for their homework reading, too, like for The Maze Runner. Please review and sign the expectations for their homework, along with their weekly trackers. We also started poetry- learning a lot of information about figurative language and sound devices.
To reiterate, there are eight Quill assignments (grammar practice) due each week- all students have plenty of time in class to complete and at lunch if they need extra time. Students are more than welcome to finish these at home if they have access to a device to use. These will be graded every Friday. Also, please do not forget to check the trackers within your student’s folders every Friday and returned signed on Mondays. Please reach out with any questions or concerns- have a wonderful weekend! 😊

New Electronics Policy/Nueva Política Electrónica
Dear Middle and High School families,
In an effort to maintain an optimal learning environment for all scholars, as well as ensure safety and limit distractions, we request your support in enacting our Electronics Policy for the new school year.
All cell phones, smart watches, and/or electronic devices must be turned off and stored in backpacks during the school day. Scholars may access their electronic devices before the beginning of the school day, 8:00am, and after the school day at 3:45pm. This means scholars will not have access to their electronics between 8:00-3:45pm. Should you need to contact your scholar between these times, please reach out to the front office and we will see that your scholar receives the message. We strongly encourage families to make plans with their scholar prior to the beginning of the school day for after-school plans.
If a scholar is caught using a cell phone or electronic device during class, in the halls, restroom, etc. the following consequences will apply:
● First Infraction – Confiscation of cell phone/electronic by teacher or school personnel. Device will be sent to the front office. Front office staff will review this contract with scholar and cell phone will be returned to the student at end of school day.
● Second Infraction – Confiscation of cell phone/electronic by teacher or school personnel. Device will be sent to the front office. Parents will be notified by school personnel. Office staff will return the device to a parent/guardian at end of school day and review this contract.
● Third Infraction – Confiscation of cell phone/electronic by teacher or school personnel. Device will be sent to the front office. Parents/guardians will be notified by the school personnel. Parent/guardian will have to be present with scholar to retrieve device and a $5 to retrieval fee will be paid by scholar.
Certain infractions will result in students immediately losing the privilege to carry a cell phone/electronic on campus. This penalty will be decided by school administrators and includes, but is not limited to, infractions such as:
● Posting harmful material against students and/or any members of the school community
● Refusing to give the device to a school official who requests it
● Making threats against the school community
Thank you in advance for your partnership with our school and your continued support to provide a safe and productive learning environment that limits distractions for all scholars.
Sincerely,
Tiffany Odom, Principal
Joanna Aguirre, Assistant Principal
Savanah Silva, Assistant Principal
