The Buzz at Westbrook School
February 2, 2024
FROM the PRINCIPAL...
Dear Westbrook Families,
As we turn the page on our calendars to welcome the start of February, I want to share our excitement for what this month has in store for students at Westbrook School. February brings the warmth of friendship and kindness through Valentine's Day activities. It's a reminder of the importance of expressing care and appreciation for those around us. Our school will host various activities emphasizing the value of friendship, respect, and empathy among our students.
The PTO room representatives will host Valentine's Day parties at Westbrook for kindergarten and first-grade students this year. If your child wants to bring valentines for the entire class, please ensure they are only non-food items. If food items are sent, they must be returned to the student who brought them. Our Early Childhood classrooms will also enjoy a PTO-sponsored Valentine's Day during their school day on February 14th.
On Friday, February 16th, we will have half-day attendance for students throughout the District. Only first-grade students will attend from 9:20 AM to 12:20 PM at Westbrook. Please note the different dismissal times for our bussers and walkers. First-grade students will not need to bring lunch on half days. Our Kids’ Corner program will only be available to first-grade students from 7:00 a.m. to 9:20 a.m. Please inform your daycare providers of this variance in the schedule. Circle of Friends and Kindergarten students will NOT attend school on Friday, February 16th. We are also off on Monday, February 19th, for Presidents Day.
For Your Children,
Danielle Crandall

Notes from the Office
- All visitors are required to ring the bell at door #1 and sign in with the office for security purpose.
If you are dropping items off for students, you will be asked to leave them in the front vestibule. We will ensure the item(s) get to the student's classroom.
- Please call the Westbrook office at (847) 394-7340 or email us at wb-office@d57.org if you are changing your child's pick up plans. Teachers may not see emails during the school day.
- If your student takes the bus, please sign up for First Student's bus bulletin to be notified of route delays. www.BusBulletin.com/parents. Please note: The snow and the cold weather can affect bus pick up and drop off times. You may need to allow additional time at your child's designated stop for bus pick up and drop off.
Please be sure your student is prepared for recess. Hats, gloves, boots, snowpants, etc. We do have outdoor recess every day unless the feels like temperature is 15 degrees or below.
Safety Reminders
Please walk WITH your child as they cross the bus lane and to the main entrance. We ask that you not allow you child to walk alone in the parking lot or cross the bus turnaround alone as this can be quite dangerous.
Please use the designated crosswalk when traveling to and from the parking lot. We discourage walking between buses for your safety.
Some of our students have apprehensions around animals, we ask that you NOT bring dogs or other animals onto school property.
