Week 3 @ Puketapu - by Jade Christmas and Naia Patten (Kōwhai)

We have been learning about astronauts, space and constellations.

We learnt about myths, then made up our own myths about how constellations were found and needed to explain how we got our answers.

Maths: We have been trying to explain how we got answers and how we solve problems.

Reading: We have been finding connections in our reading and reading all about space.

Writing: For writing in week 3 we have been writing about myths and adding constellations into our stories

Interschool: On Tuesday we hosted West End School for Interschool. It was raining but we had already postponed it the week before so we went ahead with the games. We had two netball teams, one football team and one rugby team play. The final scores were: Netball A 16 - 4 (win), Netball B 6 - 6 (draw), Football 11 - 0 (loss), Rugby 63 - 22 (win). We finished off with shared kai and speeches. We can't wait for the next interschool games. Thank you to all the coaches and supporters who came along.

SCHOOL DROP OFF AND PICK UP BAY

With the wet winter weather approaching, please remember not to park in the school drop off bay. If the drop off bay is full please find a park or go around the block and wait until it is free. do not wait on the road to turn in as this blocks the crossing and causes traffic issues for other cars trying to get out.

Please do not walk down the school driveway (staff car park), this area is out of bounds for tamariki and is not to be used as a walking path. Please enter the school grounds at one of the main gates.

TE MAKO MATAWHERO AWARDS

Our award winners from last week enjoyed a treat in the staffroom on Tuesday with Whaea Corinne - this week it was ice cream!

Amira Azad knows it is never too cold for ice cream! Halo Makiri-Watson wore a great hat. Whaea Corinne was great dishing out the sprinkles and sauces too!

MAKO AWARDS

Six fabulous boys received Mako Values Awards this week for demonstrating our values, showing great initiative and putting in the mahi - all in their own break time! They wanted to make sure our kura looked nice and tidy for interschool so they set to work picking up rubbish and ensuring it did.

We are lucky to be a Duffy School!

Last Term all our tamariki received two free books from Duffy in Schools. Later this term our tamariki will receive another two books!

As well as those books, Duffy certificates are given out to students 'Caught Being Good' during the year and tamariki get to come and choose a Duffy Book from the office.

Winter Sport is in full swing with Basketball, Miniball, Netball and Hockey teams.

You can pay your winter sports team fees at the school office via cash or EFTPOS or you can pay online. Please check Hero if you are unsure what you owe.

With the change in weather there are more bugs around, including coughs, colds, 'flu, COVID-19 and tummy bugs.

Please keep your tamariki home if they are unwell.

If you think they are 50/50 please keep them at home until they are better. The best place for them to be is at home where they are warm and can get better faster and they will not pass their sickness on to others at school.

Bring a can of fruit for Breakfast Club and your class could win a $100 voucher!

For the next three weeks, Home & School are running another can drive competition for Breakfast Club.

We are asking students to bring a can of fruit to contribute to Breakfast Club. Cans are to be taken to the class and will be collected from there.

On Wednesday 31 May, official can recorders will tally each class's can tower and declare a winner. The winning classroom will receive a $100 voucher to spend!

One can = one point (no matter the can's size)

Breakfast Club is available for all tamariki in the Design & Tech room every day between 8.30-8.55am.

It's free, it's delicious and it's a great way to start the day!

Week 3 and there is a lot of lost property already!

Please come and have a look if anything belongs to you. Lost property is in the foyer of the wharekai.

A BIG THANK YOU to our Home & School team for helping run our Breakfast Club and for helping us sort and often wash lost property. (Not to mention all the other amazing things you are constantly doing behind the scenes.)
