Principal's Message
Welcome to February, the "Shortest Month of the Year!" February is known, to some, as the month of love but it's also a time when magical learning takes place in the classroom. A time when our students begin to hit their stride and all our hard work starts paying off. Each and every educator , in partnership with our families, continue to make a difference in the lives of our students and are all starting to see the fruits of our labor.
This week begins the 1st week of Black History Month. National Black History Month serves as both a celebration and a powerful reminder that Black history is American History!
If you or your student have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me at 805-488-3583

Student Safety 1st During Drop-Off and Pick-Up
When picking up and dropping off your students at school, ideally, we would ask that you park on a side street or in the school parking lot and walk your student to a school entrance.
Front Bus Zone: If you must drop off or pick up your student at the front of the school, please pull forward as far as possible to prevent a traffic jams. DO NOT park at the front curb as it is only for drop off and pick up and bus zone. You will be sited if you leave your car unattended.
Rear Parking Lot: If you drop off or pick up students at the side gate of the rear parking lot, please stay to the right, nearest the yellow line at the fence. Staying to the right will allow other vehicles to exit around those vehicles still waiting for their student(s).
Lillian Drive Gate: There is a gates at the rear of the Bard playground, which is available for student pick-up or drop-off. The gate at the Lillian Drive cul de sacs are staffed during pick-up and drop-off times and are significantly less crowded. The Lillian Drive gate is an excellent pick-up and drop-off area alternative.
Thank you for your cooperation!
HVAC Installation
Hello, Bard community,
As our local weather and warmer seasons continue to intensify with higher temperatures for longer durations, challenges to providing comfortable classrooms have become a concern. Having over 20 students per classroom with temperatures over 80 degrees is not conducive to a suitable learning environment. As such, our school district will begin addressing this issue.
We are happy to inform you that Bard Elementary will begin the process of having Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems installed in every Bard classroom. Although this is welcome news, the installation process will come with its challenges, most notably, a disruption to the flow of traffic on and around our campus.
Therefore, for the duration of our HVAC project, we will maintain both drop-off and pick-up areas at the front and side parking lot of the school. Keeping both drop-off/pick-up areas open will alleviate traffic congestion for the remainder of this school year.
The HVAC project will begin during our winter break and is expected to be completed at the end of summer 2024. During this time, we ask for your patience, cooperation, and grace.
Thank you for your cooperation,
Mirta Alcantar
School Principal
